2022: Receiving 3 years in prison for stealing $5 million from HP Inc.
A former HP employee was sentenced to three years in prison for deceiving her employer and stealing almost $5 million from him. The 30-year-old woman's sentence became known in August 2022 from a statement by the US Department of Justice.
According to Sfgate.com, Shelby Seto, who lives in Fremont, California, pleaded guilty in March to using HP credit cards designed to settle with suppliers, and with their help paid fake Square, Stripe and PayPal accounts under her name.
As a result, an ex-employee who worked as an assistant manager and planning manager at HP stole $4.8 million from the company. In addition, the investigation knows that Shelby Seto tried to steal about 330 thousand dollars in the same way.
The woman is charged with two episodes of wire fraud and money laundering, as well as filing a false tax return, the US attorney's office said. After a three-year sentence at Shelby prison, Seto will have to be supervised for another three years. During this period, a woman will not be able to hold positions related to the trust management of assets or finances of third parties without prior permission.
In addition, the fraudster was obliged to return luxury goods purchased on the proceeds of her criminal actions. Among the items to be confiscated are Tesla's 2020 sedan; 2021 Porsche sports car; several bags and purses from Dior, Gucci, Hermes and Chanel; a collection of jewellery and watches including necklaces, rings, pendants and watches from Rolex, Bulgari, Audemars Pignet and Cartier. There are 161 items in the list, in a number of which there are several items, for example, "7 necklaces in the form of clover," "6 gold necklaces with pendants" and "26 pairs of earrings."[1]
