2024: Appearing in a criminal case on embezzlement of budget funds
On August 5, 2024, the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) announced that Major General Vladimir Shesterov, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Innovative Development of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, became a defendant in a criminal case on embezzlement of budget funds. We are talking about money allocated to support the activities of the Patriot Park, which is located in the Moscow region.
According to the Kommersant newspaper, the criminal case under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale) opened the main military investigation department (GVSU) of the TFR. The investigation is being conducted against "officials of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, FGAU Central Military-Patriotic Park of Culture and Recreation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" Patriot "and FGAU Congress and Exhibition Center" Patriot. " As part of the criminal case, the director of the park Vyacheslav Akhmedov was detained.
According to the investigation, these persons, together with accomplices, are involved in the theft of budget funds allocated to ensure the activities and functioning of the Patriot Park and the Congress and Exhibition Center. As of the beginning of August 2024, the damage is estimated at several tens of millions of rubles. The construction of the park was supervised by the former Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov.
On August 3, 2024, Akhmedova arrested the 235th Garrison Military Court, which granted the corresponding petition of the GVSU. General Shestov on the same day failed to choose a preventive measure due to the deterioration of his health. The man became ill, and he was sent to a medical institution. According to TASS, the investigation will go to a military court with a petition to choose a preventive measure for the general as soon as his state of health allows. In a criminal case, investigative actions are being carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime.[1]
