2024: Appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eurasian Rating Agency
In July 2024, it became known about the appointment of Alexander Torshin, former Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia, to the post of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eurasian Rating Agency (EPA).
According to TASS, citing the press service of the United Nations ERA, Alexander Torshin was elected to this post by the decision of the agency's board of directors. EP General Director Alexander Belyaninov confirmed that in 2024, active work is underway to form the main activities of the agency and establish partnerships.
The creation of the Eurasian Rating Agency was initiated by the President Russia Vladimir Putin in May 2023. The head states stressed the need to create "adequate assessment tools" to serve the growing economic activity in the territory Eurasian Economic Union (). EEU
EPA officially began operations in May 2024. Agency experts are engaged in the development and improvement of assessment methods, as well as conduct expert discussions on selected approaches to rating.
Alexander Belyaninov, who holds the post of Director General of the United Nations, previously noted that the creation of an independent Eurasian rating agency is a vital necessity for the development of the region's economies. In his opinion, existing European rating agencies often show bias and distortions in their estimates due to political motives.
EPA plans to go beyond traditional financial and economic rating. The agency intends to include in its scope of activity an assessment of cultural and educational institutions, which will create a comprehensive tool for assessing the development of the Eurasian region.
The EAEU, for which the EPA was primarily created, includes, Armenia,, and Belarus Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan Russia. It is expected that the activities of the new rating agency will contribute to a more objective assessment of economic processes and investment opportunities in the countries of the union.[1]
