2017: A prison sentence after the dispute on the video cards Nvidia and AMD

On February 16, 2017 the city court of Saransk (Mordovia) sentenced the programmer Alexander Trofimov almost to 10 years of prison for the murder committed because of a dispute because of what company makes the best video cards – AMD or Nvidia. The Stolitsa-S newspaper writes about it.

In Day of the programmer on September 16, 2016 Trofimov invited on a visit the former colleague from the Elektrovypryamitel plant Evgeny Lyulin. During drinking of alcohol between men the conversation on graphic AMD and Nvidia accelerators was struck up. Lyulin extolled AMD products, reasoning it with popularity among professional users. Alexander Trofimov took the part of Nvidia, explaining the position with the fact that video cards of the company provide excellent graphics to fans of games.

During the dispute programmers became personal and began to criticize mental capacities of each other. During the verbal sparring Alexander Trofimov grabbed a kitchen hatchet and knocked them Lyulin on the head twice, then tumbled down the opponent on a bed and in addition put 11 knife wounds. As afterwards it became clear, the victim died after two blows by the axe as a result of the getting brain injury.

Having a little sobered, Trofimov decided to get rid of a corpse. He wound Lyulin's body with construction polyethylene, put in a packet, submerged in the car and brought to the waste ground on the outskirts of Saransk, having been sure that deserted nobody will find a body in this. However next day Trofimov returned into place where left the killed, poured over a body gasoline and burned.

Alekandr Trofimov was delayed in three days after crime, he was recognized in deeds. On February 16, 2017 the Saransk court sentenced Trofimov to 9.5 years of imprisonment with serving sentence in maximum security penal colony.[1]
