2019: Recognition of fault in theft of these 80 million clients of JPMorgan Chase

On September 23, 2019 it became known that the Russian hacker Andrey Tyurin was recognized in cyber attack which led to theft of data more than 80 million clients of the American bank JPMorgan Chase and also other financial companies.

It is not specified what data the 36-year-old hacker could report to U.S. authorities. Due to the discussion of the transaction of listening on its case several times transferred.

According to the investigation, Tyurin together with accomplices made the attacks during the period since 2012 on the 2015th. He was at large till 2018 when it was delayed in the territory of Georgia. Afterwards the hacker was extradited to the USA.

The Russian is accused of cracking of the systems of financial structures, broker companies and media which specialize in economic information. Among them — Fidelity Investments, E-Trade Financial and Dow Jones & Co. It brought it hundreds of millions dollars. The stolen information was used for mailing to clients of the companies of spam in which different actions were offered, in hope later to cash them at higher price.

If to put all counts which were shown to Tyurin then he is threatened up to 92 years of prison, including for 30 years for collusion for the purpose of commission of computer crackings also by bank fraud. The prosecutor's office insists on the term from 15 to 20 years and payment of a penalty in the amount of $19 million. As expected, the court will announce a sentence on February 13, 2020.

Secret service of the USA claimed that the Russian bears responsibility for "the theft of client data of financial institution of the USA largest in the history".[1]

2020: Sentence of 12 years of prison

In January, 2021 Andrey Tyurin was sentenced in the USA to 12 years of prison for hacking and fraud. He pled guilty of theft of these clients of JPMorgan Chase bank and other companies.

Washington said that Tyurin committed the largest theft of these clients of bank in the history of the USA.

The prosecutor's office stated that it cracked the given nearly 140 million clients and stole information of 12 companies. Among them Dow Jones & Co, Fidelity Investments, E-Trade Financial. The prosecutor's office also stated that Tyurin worked for the citizen of Israel Jeri Shalon who was arrested in 2015. They used the got data to send to clients spam and using mailings to get profit. Tyurin will have to pay at least $20 million to the companies which suffered from his actions.
