At the end of May 2022, it was announced the appointment of Vadim Vorobyov as the new president of Lukoil. His candidacy was approved at an extraordinary meeting of the company's shareholders - it was supported by more than 99% of the vote.

The meeting also raised the issue of early termination of the powers of President Vagit Alekperov. This decision was supported by 95.7301% of the meeting participants.

According to Kommersant, on April 22, 2022, Vadim Vorobyov, who has held the position of first vice president of Lukoil since 2018, was appointed acting president of the company. This happened against the background of the inclusion of Vagit Alekperov in the Western sanctions lists.

Thus, Vagit Alekperov is not the controlling shareholder of Lukoil, the company emphasized. His fortune Forbes is estimated at $10.5 billion.
