Biography
2020: Taking office of the head of DARPA
At the beginning of September, 2020 Victoria Coleman headed the Agency of perspective defense research projects of the USA (DARPA). Coleman has more than thirty-year work experience in the government, scientific community and the private sector and held executive positions in such companies as Atlas AI, Yahoo!, Nokia, Samsung and Intel.
In particular, Colman was the senior adviser of the Center of researches of information technologies for the benefit of society, and earlier — the CEO of Atlas AI, public corporation which applies solutions of artificial intelligence for sustainable development. It is also a member of council on defense sciences and Research council of DARPA on microsystems.
Coleman will officially replace Steven Walker who held the director's post from 2017 to January, 2020. Peter Highnam, the acting as the director of DARPA since January, will return to the role of the associate director. From 1950th years the DARPA directs long-term investments of the U.S. Armed Forces in new scientific and technical opening which should ensure national security. The agency is known the broad influence on research communities of the USA, and even attribute it support of the most perspective innovators from Silicon Valley.
During an era of rivalry of great powers the DARPA is crucial for maintenance of defense capability of our country. The DARPA should strengthen technology superiority of the American military and advance innovations which bring benefit to our troops.
