2025: Sentence - 11 years in prison for embezzlement of hundreds of millions of rubles

On December 8, 2025, the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sentenced Viktor Brusentsev, former deputy chairman of the board of the Legion Joint Stock Commercial Bank (JSCB). He received 11 years in prison in the case of embezzlement of hundreds of millions of rubles from a credit institution.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation reported that Brusentsev and other persons, acting as part of an organized criminal group, issued deliberately bad loans to organizations controlled by them. As a result, funds belonging to the bank were stolen. The case was investigated under Part 4 of Art. 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (misappropriation or embezzlement committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale).

Ex-head of Legion Bank sentenced to 11 years in prison for embezzlement of hundreds of millions of rubles

In 2017, the Bank of Russia revoked the banking license from Legion. The regulator said that the creation of the necessary reserves for possible losses for a number of low-quality assets revealed a complete loss of own funds from this credit institution. In addition, the financial situation of the credit institution has deteriorated significantly due to the loss of material assets from the bank's cash desk in a large volume. Despite the measures taken by the supervisory response from the Central Bank, the leaders and owners of the Legion did not take effective measures to normalize their activities.

In addition to Brusentsev, his accomplice Mikhail Korolkov, who received 8 years in prison, was in the dock. The defendants were fined 1 million rubles and 800 thousand rubles, respectively. The civil claim declared by the state corporation Deposit Insurance Agency in the interests of the bank in the amount of more than 376 million rubles was satisfied in full. The property of the convicts was seized before the execution of the sentence in part of the civil claim.[1]
