Biography

2019: A fine of $11.5 million for an undetected disease which led to cardiac arrest

At the beginning of June, 2019 it became known that to the girl's parents from Framinham, the State of Massachusetts which submitted a claim against the radiologist to Newton-Uellsli's hospital compensation in the amount of $11.5 million was awarded. The radiologist did not manage to reveal in time myocarditis which became the reason of cardiac arrest and irreversible injury of a brain, reports the Boston Globe edition.

In the claim it was said that in April, 2009 Anna Coelho, the girl of 18 months, with complaints to vomiting and possible dehydration was taken to hospital. Among other inspections the thorax roentgenography was executed, and the radiologist William Denison took out the conclusion "bronkhiolit or atypical pneumonia".

According to Coelho's lawyers, Denison did not pay attention to the expressed increase in a shadow of heart and set the wrong diagnosis because of what to the girl did not carry out an ekhokardioskopiya in time. Actually at Anna myocarditis developed, and the delay in diagnostics and treatment became the reason of cardiac arrest and irreversible injury of a brain. Anna Coelho at the time of court was 11 years old, however her development stopped at the level of the four-year-old child.

Newton-Uellsli's hospital

The lawyer Denisona referred to pre-trial detention of specialists according to which Anna had no signs or symptoms indicating infectious myocarditis therefore she was properly transferred to hospital of the general profile of the State of Massachusetts when its status suddenly worsened. Actions of the attending physician Anna helping in urgent department were recognized perfect. However after two-week judicial proceedings jurors accused Denisona of negligence, and the court obliged him to pay compensation to family of the victim. The hospital Newton-Uellsli did not act as the defendant in this case.[1]
