2023: Execution

On July 13, 2023, Chinese authorities announced the execution of former kindergarten teacher Wang Yun, who poisoned 25 children with sodium nitrite. The corresponding decision was made by the People's Court of the middle stage of Jiaozo City, Henan Province.

According to The Paper, Yun worked in the Manman kindergarten, where she had a conflict with one of the teachers of the middle group named Sun. Wanting revenge on her offender, the woman on March 27, 2019 poured sodium nitrite into the porridge for children from his group. As a result, 25 pupils ended up in a medical institution. At the same time, 21 of them had doctors recorded severe poisoning, and one child later died.

The case was initiated in 2019. During the investigation, it turned out that this was not the first time that Yun used sodium nitrite in order to "solve the conflict situation." In particular, in 2017, she had a quarrel with her husband on a domestic basis. To take revenge on him, she acquired sodium nitrite via the Internet and added it to the water, which her husband then drank. This led to poisoning, but the man escaped serious harm to his health.

It is said that the parents of the affected children did not accept the apology of the former teacher. In addition, the case file notes that Yun "did not think about children," but pursued only her own interests.

The trial court initially sentenced Wang Yun to nine months in prison for crimes related to the use of dangerous substances and intentional harm to health. However, the sentence was subsequently changed to the death penalty under public pressure. The woman later appealed the ruling, however the Supreme People's Court of Henan rejected the appeal. As a result, the sentence was carried out.[1]
