2021: Death during the detention of a telephone fraudster in St. Petersburg

On November 9, 2021, it became known about the death of an employee of the Special Rapid Response Detachment (SOBR) during the detention of a telephone fraudster in St. Petersburg.

The incident occurred on Pulkovskoye Shosse in the Pushkin district at about 8:00 near the house of one of the victims of fraudsters. SOBR officers assisted colleagues from the police in studying data on an episode of deception of citizens by fraudsters. At the same time, according to preliminary data, we are talking about telephone fraudsters. They were engaged in deceiving people under the pretext of helping relatives in trouble, for example, in an accident.

The special operation was attended by employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian Guard. They detained suspects of telephone fraud. One of them was driving a Fiat Ducato car - he shot down and moved the SOBR fighter. From the injuries, the security officer died on the spot.

The city introduced the Interception plan and after about an hour the car was blocked at a gas station in the area of ​ ​ the city of Murino, Vsevolozhsk district of the Leningrad region. The driver was detained and taken to the police station.

According to Fontanka, the deceased SOBR fighter is 48-year-old police lieutenant colonel Yevgeny Zakharov, a veteran of hostilities, awarded state awards. He participated in the operation to detain telephone fraudsters.

The command and colleagues express deep condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. The family will be provided with all the necessary social support. The Russian Guard is considering awarding an employee for courage and dedication in performing a responsible task, Fontanka was told in the Russian Guard.

Zakharov was awarded state awards: Suvorov's medals and "For distinction in the protection of public order." The officer left a wife and three children, the Russian Guard promises to support them.^[1]
