2024: Death in a helicopter crash in Kamchatka
The financial director of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Arseniy Zamyatin tragically died in the crash of the Mi-8T helicopter in Kamchatka. The crash occurred on August 31, 2024, at the time of the crash, there were 22 people on board the aircraft, including Zamyatin's wife. All passengers, including crew members, were killed.
According to Interfax, the Mi-8T helicopter belonging to the Vityaz-Aero airline crashed near the Vachkazhets mountain range, not far from the village of Nikolaevka in the Elizovsky district. On board were 19 passengers, among whom were tourists, guides and escorts from various regions of Russia. Three crew members were also killed. The bodies of all the victims were recovered and recovered in a search operation that ended on September 2, 2024.
The RFU expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and promised to provide financial support to the family of Arseniy Zamyatin, taking on the costs of organizing the funeral. RFU President Alexander Dyukov stressed that Zamyatin was an outstanding professional and a great fan of football, whose contribution to the development of the organization was invaluable.
The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation concerning violation of traffic safety rules and the operation of air transport, which resulted in the death of two or more persons. According to preliminary data, two main versions of the crash are being considered: a technical malfunction of the helicopter and a possible piloting error. The Interstate Aviation Committee also takes part in the investigation, which is working to establish the causes of the tragedy.
In connection with the tragedy in Kamchatka, September 3, 2024 was declared a day of mourning. The helicopter was heading from the landing site in the area of the Vachkazhets mountain range to the village of Nikolaevka, but did not arrive at its destination. Communication with the aircraft was lost, which caused an urgent response from rescue services, however, unfortunately, no one could be saved.[1]
