Two months later Cisco left in market leaders of FCoE technology (Fibre Channel over Ethernet), having delivered the first switch with functionality of FCoE - Nexus 5020. In January, 2009 deliveries of the Nexus 5010 switches began.

As of the end of July, 2009:

• Cisco has more than 850 customers of the Nexus 5000 switches. So far the company supplied over 100.000 ports to the market.
• Systems with the activated functionality of FCoE are purchased by 35 percent of customers of Cisco Nexus 5000. The public and medical institutions, the information and technology companies, manufacturing enterprises, media firms, financial structures, telecommunication companies and telecom operators treat their number.
• The Cisco switches Nexus 5000 proved capability to work in the multiprotocol environment. They without loss support technologies 10GbE, Fibre Channel and FCoE, providing to the IT organizations flexibility and freedom of choice of any combinations of protocols in data processing centers.

Approval of the FCoE standard On June 4, 2009 T11 group voted for final approval of the FCoE standard and transferred this solution to INCITS (The international committee on standards in information technology field) for the publication as the standard of the American institute of national standards (ANSI). Presiding in this group and actively proposing for it different technical solutions, Cisco made a big contribution to determination of specifications and final adoption of the FCoE standard.

The Cisco switches Nexus 5000 will be sold by IBM On July 22, 2009 the IBM company announced that its department of systems and technologies (Systems and Technology Group, STG) will sell the Cisco switches Nexus 5000 within new offers for DPC networks. This agreement expands the traditional relations of cooperation in sales between Cisco and department of IBM Global Technology Services. Besides, this agreement expands possibilities of Cisco on support of the customers in the field of implementation of the unified switching and convergent networks and creates new channels of entry into the market for Cisco. On the other hand, acting as the pioneer and the market leader of the FCoE technology promoting convergence of networks using the unified switching, Cisco offers customers of IBM innovative technology in combination with protection of investments. Working together, Cisco and IBM propose to the market solutions and services of a world class.

Increase in environmental friendliness of data processing centers The FCoE technology helps customers to build more eco-friendly data processing centers, reducing quantity of cables, adapters and switches. It, in turn, reduces a capital expenditure of the equipment, and thanks to decrease in energy consumption and narrowing of problems of technical support also current costs are reduced. The companies quickly implement FCoE as this technology does not break the existing infrastructure, increases environmental friendliness of data processing centers and considerably cuts down expenses. The share of cables in the total cost of DPC makes 10-15 percent. At construction of the 1 megawatt new data processing center and of 10.000 quarter of feet (about 900 sq.m) use of FCoE technology and the unified matrix of switching can reduce the cost of cables by 40 percent. Besides, FCoE helps to solve a number of problems in the field of power supply and cooling, to increase compactness of DPC, to simplify infrastructure and current transactions, to cut down a capital expenditure (for cables and adapters) and current costs (for power supply, cooling, management, laying of cables, etc.).
