2026: AI module for A2P fraud recognition
On February 13, 2026, Eastwind introduced key updates to EW SMS Firewall - solutions for filtering and monetizing SMS traffic. Among the changes: an AI module for recognizing A2P fraud, integration with Apache Kafka message broker, automatic blacklist management and an updated dashboard based on Metabase OpenSource.
The system was strengthened by a model-based AI module NLP (Natural Language Processing), which analyzes not only the content, but also the context of the message, including the sender's behavioral patterns. This allows you to identify complex and masked fraud schemes that cannot be detected during manual analysis. The AI module can work both online and offline, providing a report on suspicious numbers and message texts.
As part of the implementation of operators from Mozambique and Burundi, Eastwind adapted the product for the Apache Kafka architecture. The team implemented a queue service for SMS processing, implemented SRI requests and optimized message processing time. For example, in Burundi it decreased from 1 s to 250 ms.
In EW SMS Firewall, you can now set the number to be blacklisted. As a rule, this is 90 days - the period after which the mobile operator terminates the contract and puts the number up for sale. When the selected period ends, the number is automatically deleted, which allows new owners to immediately use the communication services.
To simplify reporting, EW SMS Firewall was integrated with the Metabase OpenSource data visualization system. Users can now apply filters and customize the data view themselves without in-depth knowledge of the database structure.
Other updates include automatic blocking of international SMSs containing the brand name in the text, and other minor improvements that improve filtering accuracy and ease of use.
2017
As of June 30, 2017, SMS Firewall is a technology for combating - and SMSspam various types of SMS fraud.
The high throughput of the product allows you to efficiently process SMS traffic passing through the operator's network (both from external networks and internal).
As part of the full version of the platform:
- SMS Antispam - analysis of the sender of mailings and texts with automatic blocking of suspicious messages. Control of A2P services, and identification of fraudsters' messages by given keywords or words.
- SMS Antifraud - analysis and identification of facts of fraud with SMS traffic. For example, scammers can simulate home network subscriber numbers to send expensive messages from roaming.
- SS7 Filter - detection and blocking of illegal internal requests about subscriber data. For example, information about financial transactions or geolocation of users.
Functionality
- Filtering SMS traffic and detecting unwanted SMS messages.
- Blocking SMS traffic - automatic blocking or notification of the administrator.
- Delivery of SMS messages for subscribers when the forwarding service is enabled.
- Archive SMS messages.
- Real-time monitoring of the system and notification of failures.
- Modification of the SMS TP-Reply-Path flag.
- Analysis of equipment performance and occupancy.
- Support for basic protocols - SS7, SS7 over IP signaling subsystems in accordance with the SIGTRAN IETF workgroup standard, SIGTRAN modifications, TCP/IP protocols, IPv4 and IPv6.
