2019: Opening of HPC-laboratory
On October 15, 2019 the company Atos announced opening of testing laboratory high-performance computing (High Performance Computing Test Lab) in Angers France. The center of 2,000 sq.m is capable to place the computing resources comparable on power from 48 supercomputers BullSequana. The platform gives to customers of Atos an opportunity to test the supercomputing equipment in actual practice to be convinced that it completely conforms to all requirements of reference tests.
As noted in Atos, in laboratory the energy efficient cooling system which uses liquid coolant with low coefficient of PGP (Global warming potential) and Free Cooling technology that allows to reduce costs on electricity to 75% is installed. Besides, in it the system of return of heat which reuses the energy which is formed during operation laboratories for heating and cooling of office spaces is applied. It has the efficiency (Performance coefficient) equal 6 that is twice more in comparison with the standard systems. The "green" roof and terminals for charging of electric vehicles is also provided in laboratories. In 2020 on a roof of laboratory solar batteries will be installed. BullSequana XH2000, the hybrid Atos supercomputer, also increases energy efficiency of work of the center using the patented highly effective solution for liquid cooling of Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) set in it. A system minimizes energy consumption due to use of warm water with a maximum temperature of 40 °C.
The opening ceremony was headed by Thierry Breton, the chairman of the board of directors and the chief executive officer of Atos, Pierre Barnabé, the head of department of developments of BDS of company Atos, Vincent Vincent Sarracanie, the senior vice president for purchases and deliveries. Christophe Béchu, the mayor Ange and the president of the mother country Ange-Loir, and Christelle Morançais, the president of regional council Pei-de-la-Luar became guests of honor.
"Creation of this laboratory guarantees that all main knowledge and professional skills in the field of high-performance computing will be concentrated and will remain in Europe in order that we could save sovereignty of data. This project will also help Europe to become the key player in global market of supercomputers", 'Thierry Breton, the chairman of the board of directors and the chief executive officer of Atos noted' |
Construction of laboratory is jointly financed by the European Regional Development Funds. The region Pei-de-la-Luar invested 600,000 euros within policy of economic development. Also 1,200,000 euros were received from the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).
