The automated control system of RVSN consists of two independent, but integrated elements: automated system of fighting management (ASFM) and information calculating system (ICS).

ASBU provides transfer of control data for the benefit of the centralized fighting management (orders, signals, orders, reports) in any conditions of a situation.

IRS provides information and settlement needs of bodies and operations control rooms with troops as a solution of tasks of fighting management, including planning of fighting application of RVSN, ensuring fighting management, maintenance in combat readiness of parts and divisions, operation of arms and means of fighting management and communication, and tasks of management of daily activity, including assessment of a status of troops, technical and logistic support, advance planning and development of troops, capital construction, organizational and mobilization planning and registration of personnel, planning of daily activity and control of accomplishment of plans, orders and directives.

The 1960th: SU of RVSN of first generation

The management system of the Strategic Missile Troops (SU of RVSN) of first generation was created in the 1960th years by staff of Developmental bureau of the Leningrad polytechnical institute (experimental design bureau of LPI, since 1987 –NPO Impulse which is nowadays a part of United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation).

NPO Impulse says that reliability of a system of first generation exceeded "the most optimistic forecasts" and allowed to take management of strategic weapon under absolutely effective control. A system in seconds brought battle-orders from the top management directly to launching units, provided superreliability and speed of management of the rocket grouping which is territorially carried on thousands of kilometers, speak in NGO. At the same time neither external impacts, nor interruptions of a power supply could cause severe violations in its work.

1976: EXPERT of fighting management of the second generation

In 1976 AS of fighting management of the second generation was taken advantage. For its creation the experimental design bureau Impulse was awarded the order the Labour Red Banner.

The 1980th: System of third generation

In the early eighties according to instructions of the country leaders new strategic missile systems which demanded essentially other approaches to a management system for Rocket troops in high gear began to be created. Before experimental design bureau there was a task in a short space of time to master new programming methods, to create new types of data communication equipment, the restricted information and the central calculator. To the middle of the 80th years of an ACS of RVSN of third generation it was put into operation.

Fourth generation of an ACS of RVSN

Features

The ACS of RVSN of fourth generation along with the solution of traditional problems of finishing orders, collecting of reports and control of combat readiness of launching units, provides the automated change of plans of application and operational reaiming of rockets. Finishing orders of fighting management directly to launching units is possible even in the conditions of nuclear influence and radio-electronic suppression.

In each complex of the ACS equipment of RVSN of fourth generation triple reservation of the communication system and data transmission is provided. Fault finding in the equipment is localized to within the standard element which is subject to replacement.

2015: Implementation

In May, 2015 the Ministry of Defence reported that with acceptance on arms of a new mobile soil missile system of strategic appointment - "Yars" - in RVSN conducts system implementation of fighting management of fourth generation. It will allow to apply further missile systems without restriction of distances at commission of maneuverable actions and to expand opportunities for the choice of routes of fighting patrol, note in department.

The Ministry of Defence says that acceptance on arms and equipment by a new automated system of fighting management of the reweaponed connections of RVSN will allow to start upgrade of the existing stationary operations control rooms in the future.

The mobile soil Yars missile system with the intercontinental RS-24 ballistic missile is an improved version of "Topol-M". According to the Ministry of Defence, for last period of experienced alert of "Yars" proved as reliable weapon in this connection the decision on rearmament of mobile grouping of RVSN on this type of missile systems is made.

"Along with it, since 2016 RVSN in interaction with the industry are going to implement links of the integrated automated system of fighting management of fifth generation. It is based on a digital transmission system of battle-orders. A system will allow to carry out operational reaiming of rockets and also to provide solving of tasks of information support and management of daily activity of Command of RVSN, associations and connections", says the Ministry of Defence.

The latest ASBU provide finishing orders of fighting management directly to launching units, passing intermediate links, including in the conditions of nuclear influence and radio-electronic suppression.

Perspective complexes of the automation equipment, both the fourth, and fifth generations, differ in compactness, a low energopotreblyaemost, the hidden information transfer, resistance to external influences and reliability of functioning, note in the Ministry of Defence.

Fifth generation of an ACS of RVSN

2014: System presentation

In August, 2014 United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation provided an ACS of RVSN of fifth generation. As declare in the company, a system is constructed completely on domestic electronic and component base and differs from the previous system in cardinally other configuration of an automated workplace of the operator.

Using a new automated workplace the operator will be able from one point not only to manage a fighting system, but also to solve different information problems: for example, to adopt orders, to make and direct reports. The system of fifth generation is more ergonomic, differs in the improved intelligent and user-friendly program interface, developers note. All these innovations should simplify work of the operator considerably.

According to representatives of United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation, a new system provides control of combat readiness of launching units, finishing to them orders, collecting of necessary reports, the automated change of plans of application and targeting. Know-how of developers in the company call the new construct allowing to combine all necessary equipment which in former versions functioned only in the form of the separate, carried in space blocks within one automated workplace.

The CEO of NPO Impulse Igor Ustinov explained that at design of an ACS of RVSN of fifth generation developers applied essentially new approach: the unified blocks in uniform design – server racks, the automated workplace, devices, semi-devices and modules are the cornerstone of all system.

"Links of different level of management and secure channels of communication between them are under construction, as of cubes. Depending on the tasks standing on different levels blocks of different degree of an ukrupnennost are used. It is possible to install the different equipment with different functionality in blocks, identical on construction,", - he specifies.

NPO Impulse conducts works on creation of an ACS of RVSN of fifth generation since 2011. As of August, 2014 the project documentation is completely ready, it is developed necessary for software and also prototypes of elements of a system which undergo autonomous and complex setup are made. Serial deliveries of a new system for Armed forces of Russia according to plans should begin in 2016.

Rostec told TAdviser that in an ACS of RVSN components of foreign production as it contradicts security requirements were never used. All generations of an ACS of RVSN are constructed on domestic electronic and component base which is continuously upgraded, allowing to improve key system performance, representatives of the company say.

"For example, in the system of the 5th generation new microprocessors of the Russian production which high-speed performance is 20 times higher, than in the previous modification are used", - told TAdviser in Rostec.

Besides, in a new system the technology of creation of different modules on the basis of the latest programmable logic integrated circuits (PLIC) constructed based on the gate arrays programmed by the user was widely used (Field Programmable Gate Array, FPGA).

Unlike the usual digital chips having tough functionality, functions of chips of PLIS are not defined at production, and are set by programming. At a development stage of digital devices such chips differ in flexible functionality and can perform different functions depending on the programmed properties and from the special signals sent to the scheme. If to speak simply, the same chip can execute a role of computing block, memory block or the interface circuit on a payment, representatives of Rostec say.

Added to the companies that until recently only the leading western manufacturers had such technologies, and now production of such chips is developed in Russia, and, "domestic chips have very worthy characteristics comparable to products of the known global manufacturers, such as Xilinx, Altera".The PKK Milandr company which is based in Zelenograd delivers chips for an ACS of RVSN, specified in Rostec.

"Use of modern examples of domestic electronic and component base in an ACS of RVSN of the 5th generation allowed to improve considerably a system in terms of high-speed performance, amounts of memory, a possibility of flexible reconfiguration, increase in number of functions", - added to the companies.
