Content

SeaMicro SM15000 is the energy efficient, providing the high density of calculations solution representing a single system 10U high with 512 computing cores.

On November 5, 2013 the AMD company officially announced: the SeaMicro SM15000 server supports the hardware OpenStack Compute functions.

Description

In a rack 10U high possibilities of calculation, data storage and network connections are integrated - it does the AMD SeaMicro SM15000 server by the ideal equipment for large-scale implementations of OpenStack.

Freedom fabric — the switching matrix, best in the industry, providing scalability of applications of DPC is the cornerstone of a system. Separating processes of calculations, storage and data exchange through network, the Freedom fabric technology represents the most flexible, demanded and steady infrastructure for data processing centers. It allows users to use rationally performance, capacity of a storage system and network transmission capacity according to implementable tasks. As a result the data processing center becomes more adaptive. For example, there is an opportunity to compare any server with any hard drive / SSD drive or the network interface card to increase space for data storage or to execute failure recovery of one of components.

In AMD consider - OpenStack Compute working at hardware level provides scalability and flexibility, considerably simplifies creation and management of large-scale public and private cloud environments, from the virtualized and physical servers. The hardware support of OpenStack implemented in the SeaMicro SM15000 server will facilitate transition of the large companies to OpenStack and will accelerate mass implementing solution.

Advantages

The SeaMicro SM15000 server - the leader, not only because of hardware support of initialization, he allows to load and set a basic image from the central server within large-scale deployments of OpenStack. The image of a cloud supporting KVM, an image of OpenStack Compute and other applications can be configured using the central server. For coordination and creation of schedules of accomplishment of these tasks it is possible to use the Heat application which allows to manage all lifecycle of a cloud of OpenStack on physical and virtual machines.

Details

SeaMicro SM15000 represents a uniform 10U system with 512 computing cores. As a part of its characteristics ample opportunities of input-output (up to 160 Gbit), support of storage systems to the 5th petabyte and a unique superproductive switching matrix with a capacity of 1.28 terabyte — Freedom Fabric. The SM15000 server creates more productive and simple working environment.

As of December 15, 2013 the family of the AMD SeaMicro servers supports the processor of new generation of AMD Opteron ("Piledriver"), the Intel Xeon processors E3-1260L ("Sandy Bridge"), E3-1265Lv2 ("Ivy Bridge") and Intel Atom N570. The SeaMicro SM15000 server also supports products on the basis of Freedom Fabric Storage technology that more 5th petabyte in two racks allows a system to be connected to a storage system with a volume. Similar approach provides a combination of advantages of such expensive and difficult solutions as network attached storages of data (NAS) and the storage area network (SAN) to simplicity and low cost of the drives connected directly.
