ARM Mbed

ARM Mbed – the operating system provided in 2009 for devices of Internet of Things based on 32-bit microcontrollers of the ARM Cortex-M family. The project was started by ARM company together with other producers of chips. The platform works online and contains integrated development environment (IDE) including the text editor, the compiler, a set of libraries and examples of a program code. ARM Mbed consists of two parts: a core on which the team of professional programmers, and components in which creation anyone can take part works.

2018: Support of 300 thousand developers; growth by 30%

At the end of April, 2018 the ARM company told about progress of the operating system for devices of the Internet of Mbed devices which is developed by nearly 10 years. The number of the developers working with the platform exceeded 300 thousand that is 30% more than an indicator of year prescription.

Within the ARM project helps programmers with management of devices, security and the solution of other problems which as note in the company, prevent implementation of billions of devices – from sensors at the enterprises to "smart" thermometers.

ARM Mbed OS support 300 thousand developers

The ARM company is engaged in improvement of the Mbed platform jointly more than with 80 partners among whom there is a division of IBM Watson and the developer of solutions for ensuring cyber security of GlobalSign.

In process of the continuing transition of the companies to Industry 4.0 – to trends of automation and "smart" production – effective management of devices in Internet of Things can be of great importance, – the president of division of ARM IoT Services Group Dipesh Patel noted, having added that Mbed supports these industrial enterprises, eliminating barriers on the way of implementation of IoT-systems.

According to the research Eclipse Foundation published in April, 2018, Mbed is selected by 9% of developers of products for Internet of Things.^[1]
