2020: The announcement of AWS Network Firewal for protection of cloud environments of clients against harmful traffic

In the middle of November, 2020 it became known that Amazon Web Services expanded the presence in the market of cyber security, having provided AWS Network Firewall, the managed service of the firewall intended for protection of cloud environments of clients against harmful traffic.

Setup of filtering of network traffic in AWS Network Firewall is performed by administrators. For example, service can be configured on blocking or the admission of packets depending on the IP addresses from which they proceed to what part of a cloud environment of the company they go and also other parameters.

AWS Network Firewall assumes use of more specialized functions of blocking of threats. The new tool from AWS includes the detection mechanism on signatures which is focused on detection in network traffic of the sequence of bytes characteristic of harmful activity. This technology is capable to detect the hacker attacks directed to use of software vulnerabilities in a cloud environment and also the so-called attacks by a search method (brute force).

Improvement of the security level is promoted by the function of blocking of the outbound traffic which is also provided in AWS Network Firewall, for example, from the infected internal system which tries to request instructions from the managing server of hackers or to transfer the stolen data.

In addition to increase in security, AWS Network Firewall it is aimed at improvement of the user experience for cloud administrators. AWS provided to users of function of the firewall also earlier, however they were implemented in different products. For launch AWS Network Firewall supports integration with many services from partners of AWS, including the companies IBM, Alert Logic Splunk , etc.^[1]
