2023: Instrument Announcement

At St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, they created a device for biometric identification and determination of various diseases according to the pattern of palm veins. The university spoke about this development in September 2023.

As scientists explain, deoxyhemoglobin (a hemoglobin derivative) absorbs the spectrum of the near infrared range, and the method is based on this property of the substance. Computer vision technologies allow you to process images using this method, and an identification algorithm based on ultra-accurate neural networks runs out the scanned palm.

Today, the palm vein identification method is one of the most promising biometric identity authentication on the market. At the same time, the number of developments is relatively small, there is also weak competition - only foreign manufacturers are common... Vein pattern identification systems are convenient to use, work speed, accuracy, but the cost of models is very high, "explained Vladimir Kolomoitsev, associate professor of the GUAP Information Security Department, in September 2023.

According to him, import substitution leads to an increase in the need for the production of this product. The palm vein pattern identification system can be used in medicine, for example, to determine varicose veins or other diseases.

To train the neural network and reduce the likelihood of a false response, the authors try to get as many images of the palm as possible of varying degrees of quality.

Our system is cheaper than its counterparts, without loss in quality characteristics. The need for the production of this product becomes even higher due to import substitution, - said Vladimir Kolomoitsev in a conversation with the publication "Газета.ру."[1]
