The Acronis company twice reduced the prices of the solutions for data recovery for those clients who passes to them from the competing products. Such practice of promotion is quite often used by vendors in Russia for a raising of sales.

Acronis, producer for disaster recovery and data protection for physical, virtual and cloud environments, started the program of transition from the competing solutions to solutions of Acronis at a discount in 50%.

The discount applies until the end of 2011 in case of transition from similar products of disaster recovery and data protection. It is necessary to provide for participation in electronic form the copies of documents confirming use of the competing software. Let's note that in the Russian market the product Symantec Backup Exec belongs to such programs, for example. As specified TAdviser in Symantec, to the solution of Acronis in a product line of the company more there corresponds Symantec System Recovery.

According to the program, the prices are reduced for a line of the corporate products Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 (ABR). As specified in Acronis for TAdviser, the total cost of products is Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Virtual Edition – 63 thousand rubles, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Server – 49 thousand rubles, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Server SBS Edition – 17.5 thousand rubles.

Other solutions stand usually: Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Workstation – 3.5 thousand rubles, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server for Windows and the same product for Linux – nearly 30 ts. rubles. Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Workstation – 2.6 thousand rubles. Also add-on modules for a line of Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 participate in the program: Acronis Universal Restore (12.7 thousand rubles.) and Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Deduplication (8.7 thousand rubles). Respectively, at a discount all of them will cost twice cheaper.

Additional conditions of the program consist that the number of the licenses of Acronis purchased at a discount cannot exceed the number of licenses of the alternative solution used before transition. Besides, upon transition to products of Acronis the annual license for technical support is provided.

Let's note that such aggressive method of promotion in the Russian market is quite often used by software suppliers in Russia and the CIS. So, TAdviser already wrote about dumping of Microsoft in Ukraine at the expense of what it managed to reduce the prices below a level of 1C.

Earlier VMware several times reduced the price of the software product intended for work with Windows OS on Mac computers for those clients who will refuse similar development of Parallels.

The version of Acronis of Backup&Recovery 11 is intended, first of all, for small and medium business. In the company told that by means of the new software it is possible to create complete archive copies of virtual images of systems, to copy, clone and recover virtual machines at workstations and servers. In the new version the possibility of complete recovery of OS appeared if as a result of any error the computer completely lost working capacity.

According to the press service of the company, the new software is intended for simplification of data recovery and their protection against different unauthorized or inadvertent influence. In the new version the single platform allowing a product to work as a single platform between physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures was created.

In the eleventh version new opportunities of cataloguing and data retrieval, stored on physical media, the remote systems or in digital archives of corporate network appeared. Files or operating systems can be looked for by different parameters and to recover them literally in couple of clicks by a mouse.

The company created in the new version the system of step-by-step documentation which is conducted with creation of archive copies that in an effect allows administrators to understand accurately when and what at them was archived.

The possibility of parallel copying of data from several virtual machines became one more innovation of the software. Before archiving was conducted only in turn. The company says that the parallel mode allows to save time and labor costs from network administrators.

As well as the tenth version, Acronis of Backup&Recovery 11 supports deduplication of data and works with information in the MS SQL Server and MS Echange.

2014: Enciphering in Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5

On June 5, 2014 the Acronis company told of use of the GOST 28147-89 standard as a part of system modules of Acronis Backup & Recovery.

According to the company, "... Acronis Backup 11.5 is one of the few if not the only thing, the solution of backup (physical and virtual machines) in the Russian market which supports enciphering according to the GOST 28147-89 standard without the need for installation of add-on modules of enciphering...".

Acronis Backup 11.5 supports data encryption in the backup copy that helps to protect user data from unauthorized access.

Enciphering according to the AES standard with key length of 128/192 both 256 bits and enciphering according to the GOST 28147-89 standard with key length of 256 bits is supported. Such type of enciphering is available only in the Russian-language version of Acronis Backup 11.5 intended for users in the territory of the Russian Federation and the CIS countries.

All encryption algorithms use in a random way the created key of the size specified by the user (128, 192 or 256 bits in case of the choice of AES and 256 bits in case of the choice of GOST 28147-89). The more key size, the will longer be executed enciphering of archive and the data security degree will be higher. Then the encryption key is ciphered using algorithm AES-256, using a hash of password SHA-256 entered by the user as a key. The password does not remain somewhere on a disk or in the backup file. For check the password hash is used. Such two-level security circuit allows to secure data of the backup copy against unauthorized access, but recovery of the lost password is impossible. Therefore addresses to a support service with a request are senseless to return data access in the ciphered archive when losing the password – nobody will be able physically to make it (unless in 100500 years, consider developers, method ^[2] of the password).

The installer of Acronis Backup 11.5 will automatically install all components necessary for enciphering. Data are ciphered directly on the computer on which there is backup operation, then consistently transfers them to storage of backup copies: magnetic tape, network folder, etc. Along with enciphering data compression can be used. In that case data contract in the beginning, then are ciphered, as a result - time of backup procedure can increase a little.

For inclusion of an option of enciphering of archive according to the GOST 28147-89 standard, during creation of the plan of backup, the user should come into the section "protection of archive" in the "backup parameters" window, include the checkbox "set the password for archive" and select the corresponding algorithm.

2013: Acronis Backup & Recovery of version 11.5

On December 12, 2013 it became known - the Acronis company provided Acronis Backup & Recovery of version 11.5 - a software complex for backup for small and medium business.
