2019: Sales kick-off

In mid-February 2019, Boston Scientific announced the launch of AdVance XP, a retrourethral synthetic sling designed to surgically treat stress urinary incontinence in men.

The unique mechanism of action of the system allows to restore or significantly improve the natural function of the urinary sphicter. Miniinvasive sling implantation is used in patients suffering from urinary incontinence after operations of radical prostatectomy or transurethral resection of the prostate.

With the help of a special-shaped grid, the normal interaction of the sphinker with the urethra is restored, as a result of which a natural annular contraction of the urethral sphincter occurs. AdVance XP sling combines polypropylene mesh and special tools designed to reposition the male urethra.

The sling device allows it to maintain and reposition the urethra without excessive deformation of the spongy body, and the edges of the mesh are strengthened for more stable tissue fixation and uniform load distribution. According to the company, the new design of the device reduces the possibility of postoperative shift of sling, thanks to which patients can return to normal physical and sexual activity earlier.

Candidates for sling implantation are men with mild to moderate stress incontinence and preserved residual urinary sphincter function. The operation is performed on an outpatient basis for 30 minutes under general or spinal anesthesia. Since sling is invisible to others, its installation does not cause discomfort in the patient. Most of the operated patients completely got rid of incontinence. Thus, the sling system provides a minimum level of intervention and significantly improves the quality of life of patients, the press release says.[1]
