2023: Electric Vehicle Presentation

In early January 2023, the joint company Sony and Honda - Sony Honda Mobility - presented its first electric car. It was named Afeela.

As part of this project, Honda is responsible for the automotive component, and Sony is responsible for the entertainment. Smart auto technologies will rely on the capabilities of Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, and the graphical user interface will be based on Epic Games' Unreal Engine.

Epic Games Chief Technology Officer Kim Libreri said that the most natural way to visualize important data in a car is to intuitively interactively increase photorealistic images, which Unreal Engine does best.

Qualcomm noted that the Snapdragon Digital Chassis software and hardware solution, which is a set of platforms for car design, development of autonomous driving technologies, etc. will help in the regular update.

45 sensors located inside and outside the car are responsible for traffic safety. 14 of them are cameras that monitor the traffic situation around. Also outside in the "grille" is a built-in display. The company says that it will give other participants in the movement some useful information.

The electric car will initially be manufactured at Honda's North American plant and will have Level 3 automatic driving capabilities under limited conditions. Level 3 autonomy means the car can move in situations such as traffic jams, but the driver must take control when the system asks.

According to experts, Sony's entry into the electric vehicle market shows that manufacturers are increasingly paying attention to the sensations received in the car interior. This allows you to sell content using subscription services in machines, especially against the background of improving their autonomous capabilities.[1]
