2025: Transfer to Sovcomflot

The shipbuilding complex Star"" handed over to the company Sovcomflot"" the first Russia liquefied natural gas Alexei Kosygin built in a tanker for transportation in Arctic conditions. This became known on December 24, 2025.

According to TASS, the icebreaker tanker has become the lead in the series that the Zvezda shipbuilding complex is building for the Arctic LNG-2 project. The vessel is designed to operate on the Northern Sea Route. The gas carrier will carry liquefied natural gas in Arctic conditions.

Sergey Tseluiko, General Director of the Zvezda shipbuilding complex, said that this is the first gas carrier built in Russia. According to him, the ship will go along the Northern Sea Route and transport liquefied natural gas. He stressed that this achievement is a joint work of shipbuilders, partners of Arctic LNG-2, Sovcomflot and the maritime register of shipping.

General Director of Sovcomflot Igor Tonkovidov noted that earlier vessels of such engineering and technological complexity were not built in Russia. According to him, the tanker embodies a new generation of the Arctic cargo fleet. He said that the company is proud that its experience has created competencies for the construction of modern Arctic cargo ships in Russia.

Igor Tonkovidov stressed that it is the ships of this series that will have to solve the most important state task and ensure year-round navigation along the entire Northern Sea Route. Year-round navigation is critical for the development of the northern territories and the development of Arctic deposits.

The Alexey Kosygin ice-class gas tanker ARC7 is the first of three launched vessels built at the Zvezda shipbuilding complex in the interests of PJSC Novatek and PJSC Sovcomflot.
