AlliedWare Plus 5.3.4

On August 3, 2010 the Allied Telesis company submitted the new version of the AlliedWare Plus operating system. Version 5.3.4 constructed based on the standard command line interface provides new opportunities for network management, has the increased fault tolerance, allows the user to gain a better understanding about the nature of network traffic and helps to prevent unauthorized access in network.

Today it is important to enterprises to provide protection of networks against unauthorized access and to save confidentiality of data. The security measures implemented in the new version of the operating system such as DHCP snooping function (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol snooping), allow the switch to store data on client devices to which the IP address was issued thanks to what access to network is got only by the authorized clients. Besides, it allows to trace the history of origin of traffic. The DHCP snooping function can be used along with other safety features, for example, together with dynamic inspection of ARP (Dynamic ARP Inspection) for implementation of expanded authentication mechanisms and ensuring additional security in networks using switches of the second level.

Now, thanks to support of the industrial sFlow standard network administrators will be able to gain a better understanding about use of network, network loads and active routes, regardless of complexity of network. This technology provides to administrators statistical data about network performance not only at the level of users and applications, but also at the level of bits and bytes. The AlliedWare Plus operating system supports VCStackTM technology for convenient stacking and also the Fast Failover technology allowing to recover quickly and imperceptibly operability of network in case of refusal of the switch in a stack. All these measures allow to create the failsafe systems for ensuring the growing demand for online applications with continuous access.

The AlliedWare Plus operating system also completely supports transfer of packets of IPv6 with the speed of the channel (IPv6 wirespeed forwarding) that is necessary in the conditions of exhaustion of an address space of IPv4 and wide circulation of IPv6. Thanks to this function the AlliedWare Plus operating system conforms to requirements of tomorrow and at the same time provides support of the existing network equipment working in an address space of IPv4.

The AlliedWare Plus 5.3.4 operating system is available on the AT-SBx908 switches now, and on models of lines x900 and x600. In the updated software support of two-port expansion units of AT-XEM-2XP 10G doubling ten-gigabit capacity of switches is also implemented.

AlliedWare Plus 5.4.2-2.5

On August 22, 2012 developers provided upgraded version of the AlliedWare Plus (5.4.2-2.5) operating system.

Among the main features - the increased performance and profitability, OS found support of the Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) IEEE 802.3az standard allowing to reduce energy consumption on each port.

Unlike normal Ethernet which network interface the most part of time is in standby mode (Idle) and at the same time constantly consumes the electric power, only times being loaded by data transmission into the moments of splash in network traffic, energy efficient Ethernet (EEE) allows to switch-off the receiver and the transmitter at the moments of lack of activity and to save the electric power. Special signaling of Low Power Idle (LPI) between devices allows to manage a power supply depending on load of the interface. Moreover, the updated operating system allows to save the electric power by switching off of LEDs on the switch using the special Eco Friendly Mode mode.

In the updated operating system the operating temperature range of switches of a series h610 is increased - now it varies from 0 to 45C. It allows to weaken the conditioning mode in the server room and to reduce total ownership cost due to reduction of energy consumption.

AlliedWare Plus 5.4.3

On May 7, 2013 the Allied Telesis company, the supplier of the protected solutions for switching of IP/Ethernet networks and network solutions for video transmission, voices, data - announced an exit of upgraded version of the operating system for network switches – AlliedWare Plus v.5.4.3. In comparison with the previous version 5.4.2, support of services for IPv6 protocol, namely transfers and managements of multicastes of traffic using the PIM functions, MLDv2 and static routing is expanded, the protocol of dynamic selection of the IP addresses – DHCPv6 and reservations of routers – VRRPv3 is also added.

Along with it, starting with version 5.4.3 basic functions of IPv6 protocol, namely control function by means of SSHv6, SNMPv6, Ping, to Telnet and static routing became available in the basic license and at the same time it is not required as earlier to purchase the additional license.

Besides, version 5.4.3 supports the new equipment – switches h210, h510, SBx8112 and the updated modules XEMv2 for SBx908. Together with hardware support the function of energy efficient Ethernet (Energy-Efficient Ethernet IEEE 802.3az) allowing to save up to 50% of the electric power on the network ports using the twisted pair cable in absence periods of transfer of packets which initially was available only to series switches h610 was added.

One more built-in possibility of the updated OS is the Virtual Core Fabric technology (at present it is presented at the Japanese market), which gives the chance of centralized operation by a distributed network from H-series switches as the uniform virtual switchboard, this technology is the next step in development of stacking of VCStack and stacking of LD-VCStack at a great distance.

The AlliedWare Plus operating system uses modular architecture on the basis of a core with preemptive multitasking and separation of an address space for tasks therefore it differs in reliability and high performance, as on budget switches with limited resources, for example h210, and on the shassiyny switches of SBx8112 level using a multiprocessor or multinuclear architecture. Besides, AlliedWare Plus differs in ease in management, has the standard command line, the graphical interface and an opportunity to perform loading from the external carrier (USB, SD).
