2022: iPhone SE 2022

On March 8, 2022, Apple introduced the SE 2022 iPhone.

According to the company, the updated SE iPhone includes:

• The case is old, but the processor is the A15 Bionic;
• There is support for 5G;
• Stronger glass in front and back, like iPhone 13.

The cost of the phone is $429^[1].

Western media have already managed to get acquainted with the delivery kit and confirmed that it is in the box:

• iPhone SE 2022;
• cable with USB-C and Lightning connectors;
• documentation.

There is no charger, no headphones, no adapter with 3.5 mm connectors and Lightning in the kit. iPhone SE 2022 can be charged at power up to 18 W, as well as its predecessor.

The packaging itself is now different: Apple got rid of cellophane packaging. In addition, the company now uses recycled materials in the manufacture of the box^[2]

2020

Announcement of the new SE iPhone

On April 15, 2020, Apple introduced the cheapest smartphone in its range - the updated SE iPhone. It will be sold in Russia at a price of 40 thousand rubles.

The smartphone received an appearance similar to the design of the iPhone 8: 4.7-inch Retina IPS screen, Home button with Touch ID fingerprint sensor, large horizontal frames on the front panel.

The SE iPhone has only one rear camera ‒ a wide-angle sensor with a resolution of 12 MPs, a focal length of 28 mm and an f/1.8 diaphragm. The camera also supports all the functions that flagship models have, ‒ portrait mode, advanced Smart HDR, 4K video, etc.

The phone case is made of aluminum and is protected from moisture and dust according to the IP67 standard: the phone should not fail if it is in water at a meter depth and will stay there for up to half an hour. The back cover of the smartphone is glass.

The novelty supports Wi-Fi 6 wireless networks and Gigabit class LTE mobile networks. There is also support for two SIM cards due to eSIM technology (one SIM is physical and the other is virtual). Fast charging support is provided, which is capable of providing 50% of the battery charge in half an hour. The phone can charge without wire according to the  Qi standard.

iPhone  The SE 2020 model year is equipped with the Apple A13 Bionic processor, which is used by the  viPhone 11. The performance of the single-chip system increased  2.4 times,  and the graphics subsystem  4 times  compared  to the original  SE 2016 iPhone.

The new second-generation SE iPhone, as Apple itself calls it, is made in exactly the same case of metal and glass as iPhone 8

In Russia, the pre-order for the new SE iPhone will be available from April 23, 2020, sales will begin the next day.

The smartphone will be sold in several versions, distinguished by the color of the case (white, black  and red) and the volume of permanent memory (64, 128  and 256 GB).^[3]

2019: Resume Sales

In January 2019, Apple resumed sales of SE iPhone amid weak demand for flagship models. In the assortment of the American manufacturer it is the smallest and cheapest phone.

iPhone SE is sold in the sale section of the Apple online store at prices of $249 per version with 32 GB of memory and $299 for a 128 gigabyte variant. This is respectively $100 and $150 lower than the cost of the device by September 2018, when it was withdrawn from sale due to the release of iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.

Apple resumes sales of cheap SE iPhone after flagship failure

These more technical advanced models sell poorly - Apple itself recognizes this and connects weak demand with the high cost of tubes and problems in the Chinese market.

The company does not comment on returning to the SE iPhone market. Perhaps Apple decided to sell the stock of smartphones and is not going to resume production.

iPhone SE diverged well among consumers, and some of them still consider the 4-inch form factor to be the most convenient and were upset by the lack of such a smartphone in the current line of the American manufacturer. By the beginning of 2019, the most compact and affordable smartphone is iPhone 7 with a 4.7-inch display and a price tag of 39,650 rubles (in the official Apple online store). iPhone SE is offered only in the USA.

In early January 2019, Apple warned of a decrease in its revenue forecast for the first financial quarter. Moor Insights & Strategy analyst Patrick Moorhead said at the time that a weak outlook could spur the company not only to lower phone prices, but also to return the popular SE iPhone to the shelves. ^[4]]

In the first year after the release of SE iPhone, it sold 30 million copies, although analysts predicted sales of 10-20 million units, USA Today notes.

2016: Announcement

March 21, 2016 the presentation of iPhone SE took place. This new smartphone from Apple looks like iPhone 5s, and internally like iPhone 6s. The new model replaced iPhone 5s.

iPhone SE works under control of the A9 Apple dual-core processor with the clock frequency of 1.85 GHz and the graphic PowerVR GT7600 accelerator. The 4-inch screen has a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels and has Retina Flash, which turns the display into a flash to create photos by the front camera. The resolution of the latter is 1.2 megapixels.

iPhone SE twice as fast as iPhone 5s

iPhone SE is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera iSight with 4K video recording, Live Photos support and True Tone LED flash.

By tradition, Apple does not disclose the amount of RAM. Most likely, we are talking about 2 GB. Compared to the iPhone 5s model, battery life has significantly increased: for example, in video playback mode, the device is able to work up to 13 hours.

iPhone SE allows 4K video recording

Developers claim that in terms of performance, the SE iPhone is twice as high as iPhone 5s, and in terms of graphics processing speed - three times. Wi-Fi with LTE also accelerated - up to a maximum of 433 Mbps and 150 Mbps, respectively.

The physical dimensions of the product are 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm, the weight is 113 grams. The novelty was created in versions with 16 and 64 GB of permanent memory, as well as the following color modifications: pink, dark gray, silver and golden.

iPhone SE is created in four colors of the case

The cost of SE iPhone in Russia will be 38 and 48 thousand rubles for smartphones with 16 and 64 GB of flash memory, respectively. Official covers for the device will be sold at a price of 3290 rubles. Sales of the product will start at the end of March 2016. The set will be delivered with the pre-installed operating system iOS 9.3, announced along with iPhone SE.
