2022: Asus recalls thousands of defective motherboards
At the end of August 2022, Asus, together with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced the recall of 10,000 top-end ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboards for Intel LGA1700 processors. The vendor made a difficult decision after ten confirmed cases of overheating or melting of elements on the motherboard, and the first complaints from the owners appeared back in 2021.
In 2021, the manufacturer warned that you can get a burn from the motherboard, but the American regulator decided that such boards pose a serious danger to users and forced ASUS to launch a recall campaign.
According to IGN, the capacitor on the motherboard was set back, which can lead to a short circuit, overheating or melting, fire and burns. The capacitors serve to smooth out the electrical voltage in the power lines of the computer. They charge and discharge, giving away part of the accumulated charge. The reason for deformation of the capacitor shell is one - overheating. But there may be several reasons for overheating. Moreover, they can be both internal, where the quality of manufacture of the element itself, the quality of the rectified voltage, the magnitude of the load, etc., and external, for example, a high temperature in the space around the element.
The motherboards to be recalled are marked with a 90MB18E0-MVAAY0 code and are the lot number that is located near the 24-pin power connector and are also present on the package, and their serial number starts with the letter code MA, MB or MC. As of August 23, 2022, ASUS claims that older versions of motherboards with marriage have been withdrawn from stores. The new ROG Maximus Z690 Hero are not subject to withdrawal, the company noted.[1]
