2019: Results of testing of BullSequana XH2000 based on AMD EPYC of series 7H12
On October 1, 2019 the company Atos announced that supercomputer BullSequana XH2000 based on processor AMD EPYC series 7H12 set 4 world records on performance server of systems.
According to the developer, thanks to the advanced system of direct liquid cooling BullSequana and use of the powerful AMD processor EPYC 7H12, Atos could achieve record results for 2-processing nodes in 4 tests of SPECrate. Besides, the company set a record in the HPL Linpack Benchmark test using the EPYC AMD processor. Based on tests performance increased by 11%. Tests estimate work of the hardware systems in the conditions of real loadings with the large volume of computer calculations. The BullSequana supercomputer exceeded the previous records (both using AMD processors, and using processors of other producers) according to all 5 tests.
As noted in Atos, the system of direct liquid cooling (Direct Liquid Cooling, DLC) the BullSequana XH2000 systems played an important role at acceleration of the EPYC 7H12 AMD processor to the maximum level. Results of measurements show the high performance of the BullSequana supercomputers at the most low power consumption. The energy efficiency has key value for data processing centers when choosing the supercomputer since it allows to provide optimal total cost of ownership and to save millions for all lifecycle of the equipment.
"The BullSequana system equipped with the chip of AMD company offers the high performance and the optimized total cost of ownership. Thanks to it customers will be able to be beyond the traditional systems of modeling in solving of tasks connected with high-performance computing and Artificial intelligence", 'Agnès Boudot, the vice president, the head of group of high-performance computing of Atos company noted' |
"For the solution of complex problems with data processing of the most highly productive systems in the world it was required to create the solution corresponding on power, as it was made using the EPYC AMD processor of the 2nd generation. Thanks to the BullSequana supercomputer we can offer a number of new opportunities for satisfaction of requirements of modern DPCs for computing resources", 'Scott Aylor, the corporate vice president and the CEO on development of solutions for DPC of AMD company noted' |
2017: Announcement of the Bull Sequana X1310 supercomputer
On August 15, 2017 the Atos company announced release of the commercial supercomputer on the platform of ARM processors - Bull Sequana X1310. The model is created within family of the Bull Sequana X1000 supercomputers.
The ARM technology is used for high-performance computing within the Mont-Blanc project.
The companies working jointly on the Mont-Blanc project a few years ago created a cluster for high-performance computing on the platform of ARM processors. The prototype is created on a basis Bull blade modules.
For August 15, 2017 Atos coordinates the third stage of the Mont-Blanc project. The company is faced by a task to define architecture of an eksaflopsny computing node on the basis of ARM processors which can be used for commercial purposes.
In the course of the research and assessment partners in the Mont-Blanc project will use the test platform developed by Atos company on the basis of architecture of Bull Sequana X1000.
Partners in the Mont-Blanc project pin great expectations on release of the supercomputer. We were convinced for a long time that thanks to the energy efficiency ARM processors expand opportunities for high-performance computing. We would like to thank separately the European Commission for support of this project. Etienne Walter, project coordinator |
This project is implemented as a part of our program of start of eksaflopsny calculations by 2020 within which we are engaged in development of supercomputers. Numerous scientific institutes and private companies around the world use Atos technologies to accelerate a research and creation of the innovative solutions. Atos developed the Bull Sequana X1000 system as the open platform to give the chance to specialists to use computer architecture at the choice and to support processor technologies of the future which will reach the eksaflopsny level of calculations. Therefore the company decided to add in the product assortment model based on ARM processors. Agnès Boudot, vice president, head of group of high-performance computing of Atos company |
As a part of Bull Sequana X1310 three computing nodes, in each of which are set two 64-bit ThunderX2 Cavium processors on the basis of ARM v8 command set. The model will enter the market in the second quarter 2018.

Bull sequana among 500 most powerful SK
On December 7, 2016 the Atos company and the Commission on alternative and nuclear power of France (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, CEA) announced - the first Bull sequana supercomputer supporting BXI technology (Bull eXascale Interconnect) was included into Top500 list of the most powerful supercomputers of the world.
For December, 2016 in this rating of 20 supercomputers developed by Atos.
Bull sequana supporting BXI technology - first "section" of the 25-petaFLOPS supercomputer which Atos will deliver CEA in 2017 within the Tera1000 project. This complex will be created on the platform of generation of eksaflopsny supercomputers which will be provided in the 2020th years. The first system within the Tera1000 project for CEA takes the 55th place in the rating of TOP500 for December, 2016.
The system which entered the rating of Top500 represents one section on the basis of the Bull sequana supercomputer in which 85 computing bleyd-modules connected among themselves by means of BXI technology are installed. The supercomputer supports operation of 220 Intel Xeon processors Phi 7250, and its peak theoretical capacity ~ 670 TFLOPS. Performance in the Linpack test ~ 380.5 TFLOPS.
Implementation of eksaflopsny technologies and Big Data represents a difficult task for scientific and technical specialists, representatives of defense and industrial sector since these innovations open the new area of work which remains not studied at present. It will allow us not only to understand, but also to simulate the difficult physical phenomena and the industrial systems. In Europe we within partnership with Atos company have all necessary resources to solve this problem – we have both a wide accumulated experience, and necessary computing resources. François Geleznikoff, director of the military CEA programs |
Atos is proud of outstanding project deliverables of Tera1000. Today we take the next step on the way to eksaflopsny calculations. Undoubtedly, advanced technologies of interconnect will contribute significantly for achievement of an effective objective. Using BXI technology the Atos company confirms the leader positions in the field of supercomputers and processing of large volumes of data. Philippe Vannier, executive vice president for solutions for Big Data and information security and technical director of Atos group |
