2023: Platform Announcement
On June 6, 2023, medical tech startup Avatar Medical announced an advanced virtual reality (VR) platform for creating digital copies of patients. This solution will help doctors in planning surgical procedures, which will increase the effectiveness of operations and reduce possible risks.
The presented system is based on proprietary technology, which took about four years to create. Specialists from the Institut Pasteur and the Institut Curie, who are located in Paris, took part in the development of the platform. The complex allows generating VR images of organs or areas of the body based on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging data. Moreover, visualization can be carried out in real time.
Avatar Medical notes that the new platform is compatible with CT and MRI equipment from all leading manufacturers. The complex does not require an Internet or cloud connection - just have a desktop or laptop. In addition to preoperative planning, the system can also be used directly during surgical procedures to control their execution.
The possible applications of the complex are cardiovascular diseases, surgical oncology, orthopedic surgery, head and neck surgery, neonatal imaging, etc. In addition, the platform may be in demand in the educational and research fields.
Avatar Medical is a unique hardware-independent extended reality software platform. It provides the opportunity to plan surgical interventions based on preoperative imaging, and then evaluate and confirm results with intraoperative imaging, which provides additional confidence, says Venkatesh Krishnasamy, MD, PhD, assistant professor of radiology at Columbia University.[1] |
