2020: Start of service
At the beginning of May, 2020 Microsoft issued the solution Azure VMware Solution which allows clients to transfer the applications and virtual machines of VMware from local data centers to cloud infrastructure of Azure.
According to the executive vice president of Azure Jason Zander, start of service became "a surprising milestone" for both companies as it will allow their clients "will meet on a cloud travel".
Azure VMware Solution gives to clients the chance to use the same basis of VMware in Azure, as in the private data processing centers — the operating officer of VMware Sanjay Poonen emphasized. |
Azure VMware Solution works based on a hybrid cloud platform of VMware Cloud Foundation intended for control of virtual machines and orchestration of containers and created based on a complete stack of technologies of hyper convergent infrastructure. Amazon has a similar product allowing to start workloads of VMware in cloud infrastructure of Amazon Web Services — VMware Cloud on AWS.
Microsoft says that Azure VMware Solution allows partners and clients of the company to use the skills and tools which are available for them in VMware, at the same time taking advantages of work in a public cloud.
Clients can maintain operational systemacity, accelerating transition to a cloud using familiar technologies of VMware, including VMWare vSphere, HCX, NSX-T and vSAN — the marketing director of Microsoft of Takeshi Numoto in the blog of the company wrote. |
According to the analyst of Constellation Research Holger of Müller (Holger Mueller), a new product is of great importance for Microsoft as VMware starts the majority of applications at the local level, and cloud suppliers want to see these applications in the infrastructure.[1]
