2023: Product Creation
On March 16, 2023, the American medical technology company Becton Dickinson (BD) presented the first high-performance diagnostic test for infectious vaginitis of its kind.
We are talking about the BD Vaginal Panel solution based on the BD COR system: this is a comprehensive diagnostic test that detects the three most common infectious causes of vaginitis using the BD diagnostic platform for large laboratories. BD COR is said to be the only high-performance and fully integrated analytical system on the market, providing research opportunities for important indicators of women's health (including sexually transmitted infections) thanks to advanced molecular diagnostic tools.
Most women have a vaginal infection during their lifetime, and millions of them receive incorrect treatment. A recent study showed that four out of ten patients face an inappropriate diagnosis after the first visit to the doctor, which is why they are forced to make a second appointment. BD Vaginal Panel will help to end misdiagnoses, numerous clinic visits and ineffective treatment of millions of women suffering from vaginitis, "said Nikos Pavlidis, Vice President of BD Diagnostics. |
The BD Vaginal Panel solution uses microbiome-based polymerase chain reaction assay: one smear serves to simultaneously detect microorganisms associated with bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis and vaginal trichomonade. At the same time, the system reports an obvious positive or negative result for each infection separately. Accurate diagnosis, as noted, is critical to ensuring proper treatment regimens and reducing the risk of complications.[1]
