2021: British government gives BMW $36.07 million to create batteries for "long-range" electric vehicles

In mid-August 2021, it was reported that a project from BMW to develop a battery for long-distance electric vehicles received $36.07 million in co-financing from industry and the UK government.

The project, called BMW-UK-BEV, is one of four that received funding as part of the selection for joint research and development of the Center for Promising Engines.

According to a statement by American Power Conversion (APC), the BMW project aims to create a battery for electric vehicles that will compete with internal combustion engines. The project will aim to develop the largest battery pack of the BMW Group to provide excellent performance and the cost of which will be competitive.
