Start of Sales
In mid-November 2021, sales of the BMW CE 04 electric motorcycle were announced, which accelerates to a maximum of 120 km/h in three seconds. The company says a fast charging feature will also be available.
The model that will appear on the streets is very similar to the original concept released in 2020, but it has concessions to facilitate production. The motorcycle produced has wings and mirrors, which does not violate the aerodynamic design. Since BMW plans to carry out many marketing steps in the market, some technical data are already known. CE 04, which will be sold, also has several color parts, floating panels, beveled edges and compartments for storing things.
This electric bike, capable of driving 130 km, should occupy a special place in the electric bike market and represents a hybrid of a high-end scooter and a light electric bicycle driven by a 31 kW engine. The BMW CE 04 is capable of gaining maximum speed in about three seconds. BMW also introduced the EC 04 model with a reduced power with a 23 kW engine, but the maximum speed of the scooter remains the same, but the reduced model has a maximum range of 100 km.
To ensure the safety of passengers, the electric bike is equipped with an automatic stabilization system (ASC), dynamic traction control (DTC) and rear gear, which provides flexibility in navigation. It is designed to provide good acceleration in urban settings. The automaker also emphasizes that the car accelerates to 50 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, and when the handle is completely turned, it reaches a maximum speed of 120 km/h. A powerful battery is installed on the electric bike, which provides a capacity of 8.9 kVt⋅ch.
The electric bike combines driving with thrills and pleasure from riding a motorcycle. The latest technologies and the best batteries, which are also used in BMW iX. Like the CE 04, all new BMW Motorrad models for urban mobility will be fully electric, said BMW AG CEO Oliver Zipse. |
The vehicle can be charged from a household outlet, using a wall charger, as well as at charging stations. When powering 2.3 kW, the charging time is four hours, and with a fast charger by 6.9 kW, the time is reduced to 1 hour 40 minutes.[1]
Repetitive production
In early July 2021, the BMW Motorrad division announced the launch of mass production of the CE 04 electric scooter, which is futuristic in design and has a decent range. Its cost is $12 thousand.
The conceptual version of the CE 04 electric scooter was introduced at the end of 2020. The serial version of the novelty is very similar to the concept. Instead of making the design softer and more attractive to a wide range of customers, the manufacturer retained bright orange accents and sharp angular lines of the CE 04 concept. BMW is positioning the new scooter as an everyday vehicle for urban movement.
The wheelbase of the novelty reaches 1676 mm, and the steering angle is 26.5 degrees, which makes the electric scooter maneuverable and stable. The CE 04 provides four driving modes, including the ECO mode for overcoming as long distances as possible, the standard Road mode, as well as Rain for driving in adverse weather conditions, and Dynamic.
By analogy with electric vehicles, CE 04 uses regenerative braking technology that allows you to charge the battery during decelerations. The scooter also supports the reverse, which makes it easier for the driver to maneuver.
According to BMW, the electric scooter can travel without recharging up to 130 km. This range is provided by an 8.9 kWh battery based on cells that are also used in batteries of BMW iX SUVs. It will take 4 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge. In the CE 04 design, a 42 horsepower electric motor is provided that provides a maximum speed of 120 km/h. It takes only 2.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h.
The manufacturer implemented the functions of automatic stability control and dynamic traction control, as well as an anti-lock braking system is provided in the electric scooter. The steering wheel is equipped with a TFT display, the diagonal of which reaches 10.25 inches. According to BMW, the electric scooter will also implement a well-ventilated compartment for charging mobile devices through the USB Type-C port.[2]
