2025: Detection of a defect that causes engines to burn. The first cases were recorded in Russia

In Russia, owners of BMW X7 SUVs with three-liter diesel engines faced a car fire while driving. The problem is related to factory marriage. This became known on October 23, 2025.

As "Газета.ру" writes with reference to the telegram channel "SHOT Check," diesel BMW X7 with the Korean EGR exhaust gas recycling system are at risk. Abroad, such cars have already been recognized as defective. They are periodically recalled due to a defect that can lead to fire.

A marriage was found in the BMW X7, due to which the engines are burning. The first cases were recorded in Russia

The former owner of the three-liter diesel BMW X7 spoke about the case of his car. The car caught fire right on the go after three years of use. At the same time, the vehicle underwent maintenance two weeks before the incident.

Later it turned out that the victim's car was included in the list of problem cars. On the official website of the British representative office of BMW, the car is among those who could have problems with the EGR system. Potential flammable deposits in the intake system are also noted.

Russian service centers have confirmed the existence of a problem with the BMW X7. Experts said that the cases of fire are not isolated. The fault affects a certain batch of cars with a specific engine configuration.

The first symptom of the problem was called increased antifreeze consumption. Owners are advised to pay attention to the level of coolant. An abnormal decrease in antifreeze may indicate the development of a defect in the engine system.

EGR exhaust gas recirculation system is designed to reduce emissions of harmful substances. It returns some of the exhaust gases back to the engine cylinders. Failure of this system can lead to serious consequences.

The problem affects BMW X7 cars with a certain configuration of the power unit. We are talking about three-liter diesel engines equipped with a Korean-made EGR system. Other engine modifications are not affected by this defect.[1]

2018: BMW X7 public display

In November 2018, a public announcement of the BMW X7, the largest SUV of the Bavarian concern, took place. The novelty was brought to the Los Angeles Motor Show.

This seven-seater crossover competes with Mercedes-Benz GLS and Range Rover. BMW offered four engines: a gasoline V8 4.4 (462 forces), a gasoline in-line "six" (340 forces) and a six-cylinder diesel with two levels of forcing (265 or 400 forces). The car is equipped with an 8-speed "automatic" and an xDrive all-wheel drive system, and the "charged" version also received a differential with electronic locking in the rear wheel drive.

Now about the technologies that have found application in the BMW X7. The manufacturer equipped the machine with adaptive LED headlights, a smart high beam control system, laser headlights (optional) and 5-zone climate control (also at an additional cost).

The crossover uses a steering mechanism with steering of the rear wheels and an Executive Drive Pro system with active stabilizers - it changes the characteristics of the suspension depending on the data from the cameras and the navigation system.
