2018: Philips purchased military developments for mobile monitoring of patients

On August 28, 2018 the Philips Healthcare company announced the conclusion of the license agreement with research laboratory of the U.S. Air Force on development of the mobile application intended for condition monitoring of patients in real time.

The Batdok application was developed at air base Wright-Patterson and allows the medical officer to control effectively a status of the victims in field conditions using the smartphone or the tablet. The wireless sensors placed on the patient send information on the vital indicators to the device that allows the doctor to learn about changes in the patient's status which can demand his intervention in time. Adaptation of the application for application in civil conditions will expand possibilities of telemedicine.

Philips acquired the right to development of a control system of a status of patients of Batdok from the U.S. Air Force

The patent license agreement was signed on July 10, 2018. Financial details of the transaction are not disclosed, but it is known that Philips acquired the right to complete product development and to adapt it for civil needs. Philips expressed interest in acquisition of technology after last year's field tests. Specialists note that many medical military developments can potentially be used in the form of civil applications. For example, Batdok can be used in stationary and out-patient conditions and also in ambulance cars. Potentially this application can be applied even to control of the use of opiate analgetics.

The license confirms efficiency of the program of technology transfer of the Air Force of the civil industry thanks to which results of unclassified researches of the Air Force go into the disposal of the civil companies for further development and deployment. Knowledge sharing, experience, the equipment and means of check will allow economy of the USA to benefit by the state investments into military researches, specialists consider.[1]
