2022: Transfer of the Russian Navy
On July 8, 2022, the first Poseidon naval drone carrier submarine, Belgorod, was officially transferred to the Russian Navy (Navy). Thus, the Russian fleet received the first regular carrier of nuclear torpedoes, which in the West are called "Yom Kippur weapons." Poseidon drones can carry conventional and nuclear munitions, which will allow them to hit different targets: aircraft carrier groups, coastal fortifications and infrastructure.
The solemn ceremony of signing the acceptance act and transferring the Belgorod research submarine to the Navy took place at the largest shipbuilding enterprise in Russia - JSC PO Sevmash (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC). As noted at this event, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Nikolai Evmenov, when creating the ship, advanced achievements of science and the latest construction technologies were used using the existing technical reserve.
The Belgorod submarine was designed by the Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering Rubin JSC and built by the Northern Machine-Building Enterprise JSC. The ship is designed to solve diverse scientific problems, conduct search and rescue operations, and can also be used as a carrier of rescue deep-sea and autonomous uninhabited underwater vehicles.
This is a new page in the history of the enterprise, it is both honor and responsibility. Thanks to the coherence of the team's work, such achievements become possible, "says Vladimir Korolev, Deputy General Director for Military Shipbuilding and Special Programs of USC JSC. - The oceans are essentially the last frontier on our planet, not yet fully mastered by humanity. Joining the Navy of this submarine opens up new possibilities.[1] |
"Poseidon" was dubbed the "doomsday weapon" by American experts and the media. So, 19Fortyfive columnist Brent Eastwood wrote in November 2021 that this weapon "inspires horror," it can destroy all cities on the coast of the United States.
