2025: Cars burn on charge. It's all about Samsung's defective batteries
On December 10, 2025, Bentley initiated the recall of 130 Bentayga Hybrid SUVs manufactured from September 13 to September 28, 2023. The reason was the potential presence of a defect in Samsung high-voltage batteries, which can overheat and create a risk of fire.
An official notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) USA indicated that the battery cell supplier, the company, Samsung SDI had notified Bentley of the manufacturing defect.
The problem affects lithium-ion cells with a capacity of 18 kVt·ch and can manifest itself in two forms: particle contamination or damage to the internal separator (separation layer). Both cases can lead to a short circuit and subsequent thermal acceleration - uncontrolled self-heating of the battery.
As part of the recall campaign, Bentley dealerships will install the new software on a battery management controller (BMC) for free. This program is designed to monitor the state of self-discharge and identify specific battery modules that need to be replaced.
The company estimates that less than 1% of cars will need a physical battery replacement, that is, one or two out of 130 cars. The rest of the cars will be recognized as safe after undergoing software diagnostics.
According to Carscoops, Bentley received the first notification from Samsung SDI about a battery problem in October 2023, after similar incidents in another Group brand Volkswagen. Bentley's product safety committee initially saw no reason to recall Bentayga Hybrid due to a lack of field incidents.
However, subsequent reports of battery failures from other Volkswagen Group brands prompted the committee to reconsider the decision. The recall campaign was launched as a preventive measure to rule out any potential incidents.
No cases of fire or injury related to this defect on Bentley vehicles have been reported. The value of the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid model in the US market exceeds $200,000.[1]
2024: Recall of hundreds of cars in Russia that suddenly stop while driving
On June 21, 2024, it became known that 473 Bentley Bentayga crossovers were being recalled in Russia due to the risk of a sudden engine stop. This measure was taken after detecting problems with the gas pump, which can lead to a complete failure of the fuel supply system.
According to RBC, cars sold on the Russian market in the period from 2017 to 2022 are subject to recall. Rosstandart said that the problem lies in the overheating of the contacts of the electrical connectors of the gas pump located in the fuel tank. This can lead to a malfunction of the fuel supply system, which in the worst case can cause an unexpected shutdown of the engine.
The agency explained that drivers may notice a deterioration in the dynamic characteristics of the car and possible problems with starting the engine. In some cases, the engine may stop spontaneously, posing a potential threat of emergency on the road.

According to Rosstandart, information on cases of injuries, fires or road accidents associated with this problem is not yet available. However, given the severity of the possible consequences, it was decided to carry out a mass recall of cars to eliminate the defect.
Owners of Bentley Bentayga cars are advised to contact authorized service centers to conduct a free check and replace the necessary components. All work will be carried out at the expense of the manufacturer, which will avoid additional costs for owners.[2]
2018: The advent of the fingerprint scanner
In March 2018, Bentley Motors unveiled the updated Bentayga premium SUV, which received a fingerprint scanner similar to that found in smartphones.
The fingerprint sensor is built into a cast aluminum box located in the central tunnel of the cabin. In this box, owners can store small, expensive items, such as hours when a car is parked unattended or handed over to outsiders who should not have access to the bay.
According to the developers, a box with a fingerprint scanner is ideal for storing things during a beach holiday, skiing or using jack parking. This box also contains an AUX port and two USB connectors for connecting gadgets.
You can open a mini-safe developed by Mulliner (a division of Bentley that specializes in fulfilling individual orders and releasing special versions of the brand's machines) by fingerprint - the capacitive sensor used in the lock is similar to the sensor used in smartphones, while several fingerprints can be stored in the system memory, such as fingerprints of family members and friends.
The Bentley Bentayga is equipped with a four-liter twin-turbo V8 engine (550 forces and 770 Nm), a six-liter W12 unit (608 forces and 900 Nm), and a 4.0 V8 diesel engine (435 horsepower and 900 Nm). The car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 301 km/h.
The SUV interior uses expensive types of leather and wood, including Ombre Burr walnut veneer. The speaker system is equipped with an amplifier and 20 speakers with a total power of 1950 watts.
The cost of Bentley Bentayga in Russia begins at 12 million rubles. The price of the version from Mulliner has not been announced.[3]
