2025: Defect detection - parts fall off at the simulator, people are injured
In November 2025, Peloton Interactive Inc. initiated the recall of approximately 833 thousand bike trainers of the Bike + model in the United States. The reason was reports of breakdowns of the seat pin - the part that holds the seat.
According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the company received three complaints about this malfunction, two of which led to user injuries. Machines with marriage were implemented from January 2020 to April 2025. The commission recommended that owners immediately stop operating the recalled equipment.
Peloton Senior Vice President, Global Hardware Operations and Product Security, Marcio Oliveira, in an official statement to TechCrunch, said product reliability and customer well-being are the company's top priorities. He confirmed that all owners of the affected models will be provided with an improved version of the seat pin, and urged them to contact the company for replacement.
This case is not a precedent for Peloton. Previously, the company has already recalled about 2.2 million exercise bikes due to issues related to user safety.
The announcement of the recall coincided with the publication of the financial report of the company, which seeks to restore growth after a decline in sales at the end of the pandemic period. Peloton's share price has shrunk more than 90% since January 2021, according to TechCrunch.
As part of its business revitalization strategy, the company introduced the new Peloton IQ system. The focus on artificial intelligence technology represents the first major product change under CEO Peter Stern, who took over the company in January 2025, TechCrunch reported.[1]
