2022: Launch Application

In early January 2022, Israeli startup Binah, which monitors vital indicators, announced the launch of a platform capable of turning a smartphone into a device for measuring blood pressure using video-based artificial intelligence technology. The company has developed an application with a function to calculate changes in blood flow - the service independently determines the blood pressure in the body by selfies. According to the developers, their main goal is to create a full-featured solution that will allow us to abandon tonometers.

The Software Development Kit (SDK) uses computer vision technology and signal processing to analyze video. Binah representatives report that users can perform scans to control blood pressure without connecting to the Internet. In addition to smartphones, the application can be used on tablets or laptops.

The ability to add to our Health Data Platform the function of video monitoring of blood pressure, using only a camera device, takes us to a new frontier of opportunities for the health and well-being of people. It also brings us a step closer to achieving Binah's mission of providing basic and universally accessible health and wellness services for everyone and anywhere, said Binah CEO and founder David Maman.

The technology is based on photoplethysmography, a process during which program algorithms analyze light reflected on behalf of the patient. The technique itself is not unique, but, as a rule, it involves the presence of professional equipment and works in tandem with tonometers for accurate calibration. Users will be able to be connected to a system for measurement of arterial blood pressure, heart rate, variability of a warm rhythm, saturation by oxygen, frequencies of breath, sympathetic tension, parasympathetic activity and pulse breath. The total measurement takes about one minute.

To measure blood pressure by video, companies can use the SDK and integrate the function into their systems, or use a ready-made program called Binah Team.[1]
