The Brocade company announced in March, 2011 version 12.3 of the software for controllers of delivery of the Brocade ServerIron ADX Series applications which allows these platforms to play a role of the effective gateway between the existing IPv4 networks and modern network infrastructures on the basis of IPv6. The functionality of this gateway allows customers of Brocade is practical to adapt IPv6 technology and to support at the same time IPv4 and IPv6 environments, offering them a smooth way of migration without work interruption.

According to analysts of IDC, the existing IPv4 protocol approaches limits of the scalability because of the exponential growth of number of network devices – smartphones, laptops, tablets and intelligent sensors. Emergence of the new devices supporting only IPv6 protocol that in turn demanded from the IT organizations of simultaneous support of networks with two protocols and the minimum breaks in work upon transition to new technologies became result of such growth. Besides, recent changes in requirements to the equipment force to accelerate support of two-legal networks: around the world the state organizations published the statements not only approving implementation of IPv6, but also obliging to use the equipment, ready to transition to IPv6.

The line of switches of traffic of the Brocade ServerIron ADX applications is intended for balancing of loading of traffic between servers and takes the leading positions in the market at the expense of the high performance and functionality. This line has models, as from fixed, and a modular configuration.

Switches of traffic of the Brocade ServerIron ADX applications provide solving of tasks:

  • balancing of loading (SLB) of traffic at all levels, including the level of applications (L7), i.e. distribution of client requests for servers taking into account specifics of applications, loading of servers, type of traffic and other criteria.
  • balancing of load of traffic of firewalls (Firewall Load Balancing)
  • global balancing of loading of traffic (GSLB), i.e. traffic distribution between geographically spaced websites (DPC), including taking into account their status and load of channels.
  • removal of loading from servers, work-related TCP and SSL protocols. It is also possible to perform a traffic compression for mobile applications
  • traffic handling at the level of applications (L7), for example - rewriting of HTTP headers, replacement of URL links, and so forth.

The functionality of Brocade ServerIron ADX supports safety features as that: DoS/DDoS opposition to the attacks hardwired i.e. without decline in production.

The routing protocols RIPv2, OSPFv2, OSPFv3, IS-IS, Multiprotocol BGP, VRRP/E and the other functionality necessary for support of the user traffic in DPC networks are supported.

There where the failsafe solution is necessary, there is an opportunity to organize access to servers due to creation of clusters which will be visible as the uniform device for the user. Options of failsafe configurations - Active/Stanby and Active/Active are available.

In networks where IPv6 is at the same time used and IPv4 protocols is possible to use functionality of IPv6 NAT64 Gateway or IPv6 SLB Gateway that gives the chance to get access to applications to users irrespective of the protocol which they use

The maximum parameter values for Brocade ServerIron ADX (for the senior ADX 10000 model):

  • 70 GB / with capacity for IPv4 protocol at the level of the application
  • 60 GB / with capacity for IPv6 protocol at the level of the application
  • 13 GB / with capacity for SSL of traffic
  • 128 million / from simultaneous connections
