On October 17, 2023, South Korean medical technology startup Sky Labs announced the release of a smart ring called CART BP for continuous blood pressure monitoring. This wearable device began to be used by hospitals and clinics across Korea.
The gadget, designed to be worn on the finger, monitors blood pressure in 24/7 mode. The device involves algorithms of artificial intelligence and the method of photopletismography (FPG). The ring is able to track atrial fibrillation by FPG and ECG signals. Additional options include assessing blood oxygen saturation and counting heart rate.
The indicators are measured using two sensors on the inside of the ring - the LED module and the photodiode. The collected data can be used by physicians to determine the patient's current condition, to create a personalized treatment regimen, to adjust the dose of drugs, etc. The information received is displayed in a convenient form in the application for: smartphone you can view graphs and history, track changes per day, week or month, etc.
Sky Labs announced a Series C funding round, during which 20.7 billion won was raised for development (approximately $15.24 million at the exchange rate as of October 19, 2023). The investment program was led by the state-owned Korean Development Bank. In addition, the funds came from K2 Investment Partners, Devsisters Ventures, SJG Partners and OpenWater Investment. Thus, as of October 2023, the total funding for Sky Labs is 54.8 billion won (about $40.35 million). The money received will help the company promote CART BP in the European and American markets.[1]
