Cisco 5520 Wireless Controller is the controller of wireless communication, supports standard 802.11ac of Wave 2, maintains capacity of 20 Gbps and is scaled up to 1.5 thousand access points and 20 thousand clients[1].

On August 4, 2015 the Cisco company announced a control device network of wireless data transmission Cisco 5520 Wireless Controller.

Possibilities of this device are provided with the updated CPU, memory and the software that helped to increase authentication speed from 235 users per second (controller 5508) up to 764 (controller 5520). The company points to a gain by this parameter - 225% that it considers very important: the less time is taken by authentication of the device, the quicker it gets access to network resources, and the user is better perceives service.

The scalability of the Cisco 5520 controller is increased and, according to developers, becomes a basis for support of wireless configurations when in a coverage of a wireless network there can be at the same time thousands of users, for example: stadiums and university campuses where a great number of students move from the building to the building with notebooks, tablets and smartphones. In such public places Cisco 5520 Wireless Controller can connect users for several seconds.

The independent testing laboratory Miercom published results of comparative testing of the new controller of wireless communication of Cisco 5520 Wireless Controller and the previous model — Cisco 5508 Wireless Controller. Capacity of a c-plane of both models was measured in the carried-out tests and quantitatively performance improvement of a c-plane was defined.

Speed of authentication, 2015

Tests of simultaneous authentication and roaming using different methods of authentication and enciphering showed - the capacity of the Cisco 5520 controller higher than performance of Cisco 5508 by 3.25 times.
