Cisco 2911R routers with the integrated network services (ISR) are manufactured in Russia since 2012. They are issued in Tver based on global contract producer according to the arrangements on support of the innovative development of the Russian economy reached in June, 2010 at a meeting of the head of the company John Chambers with Dmitry Medvedev who was at that time the Russian President.

2016: The FSTEC certificate on lack of not declared opportunities

In November, 2016 Cisco 2911R routers with the Cisco IOS operating system received the FSTEC certificate on lack of not declared opportunities (NDV). The business consultant on information security of Cisco Alexey Lukatsky told about it in the blog. The certificate confirms compliance of this product to the 4th level of absence control of NDV.

Received such certificate on Cisco routers in Russia for the first time. Lukatsky in the blog explained why the company at first certified on absence of NDV routers, but not, for example, firewalls:

Big share in our Russian business makes sales of network equipment, and we were often asked about presence of the certificate at it on absence of NDV. Therefore in terms of business the solution to begin certification with Cisco IOS was quite logical and natural, - he wrote.

Process of obtaining the certificate took several years. In 2013 Lukatsky wrote about what difficulties face in the course of obtaining the certificate on absence of NDV for a product of the American origin. In a case with the software it is required to provide to regulators for a research its source codes, and in a case with hardware and software systems it is also necessary to disclose information on system engineering, architecture, functional specifications, etc. If certified production gets under action of export restrictions of the USA, then for providing the specified information on it to someone needs permission of the American authorities. Its receiving can occupy a progressive tense.

Alexey Lukatsky in the blog notes that in 2013 work on obtaining the certificate was already conducted, and then there were three years of researches.

Experience of the Russian division of Cisco experience was considered at the global level: "in many respects, exactly on our case the company fulfilled the Cisco Technology Verification Service announced last November which task - to provide to interested persons access to source codes of our equipment and software", writes in the blog the expert.

Lukatsky added that if earlier providing access to "source codes", the main intellectual property of the company, was an event in Cisco and required a set of approvals on the top of hierarchy, then now it is the built process. The expert hoped that thanks to it the subsequent certifications will quicker take place.

In plans of the company - obtaining the certificate of FSB on Cisco 2911R. Besides, according to Alexey Lukatsky, in the company discuss certification and other lines of the equipment Cisco.

In 2008 Cisco announced obtaining the first FSTEC certificate about lack of not declared opportunities. It was issued on the Cisco ASA 5500 firewall. Alexey Lukatsky explained that it was the first attempt of certification of a single copy, and action of the certificate ended long ago.

2013: Certificate of conformity of FSTEC

In the spring of 2013 the Cisco 2911R router received the FSTEC certificate of Russia for a period of three years. This device is recognized to relevant requirements of the regulating document "Computer aids. Firewalls. Protection against unauthorized access to information. Security indicators from unauthorized access to information" on the 4th class of security. Certification is carried out according to the scheme "series" by testing laboratory "Documentary Systems". The applicant of certification – Verkom company.

Certification of this device became a new stage in the long continuous process designed to confirm that the equipment and softwares of Cisco conform to requirements of the Russian legislation noted in the company.

Obtaining the FSTEC certificate of Russia on the Cisco 2911R router opens possibilities of broad application of this product by those organizations and enterprises where use only of the certified information security tools is allowed, – the manager on certification of Cisco company Sergey Snezhkov noted. – Cisco will continue to expand the list of the products having FSTEC certificates to satisfy needs of our clients and partners for the reliable solutions meeting the high requirements in information security field.

In the summer of 2016 the Russian production of Cisco 2911R routers underwent conformity assessment to requirements for security of FSTEC again that was confirmed with the term updated the certificate for 3 years.

The Cisco IOS operating system which is a basis of one of the most popular models of Cisco routers of the second generation contains a range of protective functions and mechanisms – the firewall and the systems of prevention of invasion, the analysis of content, the protected connection of remote offices and workers including based on the module of cryptographic information protection certified in FSB (VPN module). Possibilities of the Cisco ISR router can be expanded due to start on its base of multifunction services of security FirePOWER Services.

The updated certificate No. 2838 certifies that the Cisco ISR 2911R router manufactured in Russia conforms to requirements of the regulating document of FSTEC "Computer aids. Firewalls. Protection against unauthorized access to information. Security indicators from unauthorized access to information" on the 4th class of security.
