The name of the base system (platform): | Cisco UCS Unified Computing System |
Developers: | Cisco Systems |
Technology: | Server platforms, Data processing centers are technologies for DPC |
The server of a corporate class Cisco UCS B200 M3 provides the high performance, flexibility and density in the body, half more compact, than at the normal bleyd-server. The balanced density of this device, best in the industry, allows to support 24 slots of DIMM and a subsystem of input-output with bandwidth to 80 Gbps. The high density, excellent performance and wide bandwidth of this server increase high-speed performance, profitability and efficiency of business applications.

Cisco UCS B200 M3 is suitable for a broad spectrum of IT loadings:
- the virtualized workloads
- IT and web infrastructures
- creations of virtual desktops
- databases
- installations of middleware software on it
- deployments of solutions of resource planning of the enterprises (ERP) and applications of customer relationship management (CRM)
Based on cross-validation testings of VMware VMmark 2.1 a blade servers of Cisco UCS B200 M3 in the summer of 2012 the new record of performance of the virtualized calculations was set. The result achieved by them (11.30 points on 10 blocks) exceeded all similar indicators of other dual-processor servers, including the systems of HP and Fujitsu. Let's add that in three years from the moment of the emergence in the market the Cisco UCS system set up already more than ten world records on VMware VMmark tests.
Cloud computing changes traditional approach to information technologies, and the Cisco company is among leaders of these changes. Though for the end user the cloud environment looks an unlimited source of resources, physical servers, switches and storage systems with an excellent infrastructure and virtualizatsionny performance and high scalability are necessary for its work. At the same time the better infrastructure, the is higher performance, and the record results shown by the Cisco UCS system during tests of VMware VMmark 2.1 it clearly demonstrate. Besides, the high rates reached by Cisco company using a number of innovations: the 10-gigabit unified matrix of switching, processors Intel Xeon E5, the interface Cisco VIC cards, technologies of network support of virtualization Cisco VM-FEX, big RAM and solid-state Violin flash memory — show architectural advantages of the systems which are specially developed for the virtualized environment.
The test procedure of the version of VMmark 2.1 uses the blocks of loadings including six real work assignments allowing to measure in points performance level both in the field of virtualization and in the infrastructure sphere.
Cisco UCS represents completely unified system which is configured in completely automatic mode using the uniform, based on models and rules management system facilitating implementation of applications of a corporate class and the servers working in any environment (purely physical, virtualized or cloud). At this Cisco UCS, developed for management a blade servers and rack servers in a unified environment, differs in the simplicity allowing to try to obtain higher performance at smaller expenses. The architecture of expansion of a matrix (Cisco® Fabric Extender) directly leads up the unified switching matrix to a blade servers, rack servers and separate virtual machines. So radical simplification increases network performance and eliminates need for use of a set of separate modules for switching, the subsystems of input-output and management encumbering traditional a blade system and increasing infrastructure cost.
The lack of excess network switches, modules of management and the cables closing access to back panels a blade chassis does Cisco UCS by an elegant and effective system with a direct flow of the cooling air that cuts down expenses on infrastructure and power supply. At the same time additional resources for a power supply and cooling even of the most powerful Intel® Xeon® processors are released that increases performance of cloud computing even more. To appropriate add that on the same Cisco UCS chassis three generations of Intel Xeon processors are supported already.
During tests of VMware VMmark 2.1 the Cisco system from two a blade servers of Cisco UCS B200 M3 about a flash memory of Violin gained as it was already told, 11.30 points at 10 levels. On everyone a blade server of Cisco UCS B200 M3 two 8-core Intel Xeon processors E5-2690 were installed. Using Intel Turbo Boost technology the clock rate of processors in the presence of an opportunity increased from 2.9 GHz to 3.8 GHz. On each server RAM with a capacity of 128 GB and the virtual interface Cisco UCS Virtual Interface Card (VIC) card was set.
Test boot images and storage systems of virtual machines were installed in an array a flash memory of Violin 6000 Series Flash Memory Array. These arrays which are completely based on a flash technology have sufficient reliability, performance and profitability for use in crucial storage systems.
