2015: Cisco stops development of the Russian IP phones

On December 1, 2015 it became known that Cisco stopped development Russian IP phones. It can be connected as with a difficult economic situation, and the growing demand for the equipment of competitors, including Chinese.

According to Kommersant with reference to a source in IT market, Cisco froze the joint project with the Experimental plant of scientific instrument making of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Federal State Unitary Enterprise EZAN) on development and release of IP phones, complexes of technical means of protection and solutions for security of workers of the mining industry. These products, it agrees to the agreement signed in August, 2014, had to be created under a local brand, and the intellectual rights to them were going to be assigned from Cisco to Federal State Unitary Enterprise EZAN.

Cisco suspended the joint project with the Experimental plant of scientific instrument making of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Federal State Unitary Enterprise EZAN). Initially they were going to develop and make IP phones.

The head of department of the digital telecommunication equipment of Federal State Unitary Enterprise EZAN Oleg Novikov told the newspaper that within cooperation with Cisco 150 IP phones under the Cisco EZAN brand which were delivered in Gazprom were succeeded to release. No other equipment was made.

"Unfortunately, the majority of projects of our customers using this equipment was suspended. Sharp change in the exchange rate of ruble did not allow to implement the drawn-up plans fully. We hope that the economic situation will change and these projects will be demanded" — Oleg Novikov reported.

According to interlocutors of the edition, the decision on the termination of joint development of the Cisco IP phones and Federal State Unitary Enterprise EZAN is proved  by the fact that  big state customers quite often prefer to the equipment Cisco analogs from  Huawei and  other Chinese companies.^[1]
