2021: Start production of cranial implants for ultrasound after brain surgery
At the end of February 2021, the company Longeviti Neuro Solutions released the cranial implant ClearFit, which can be used for postoperative ultrasound imaging. These transparent implants are used for skull reconstruction after head surgery brain and are manufactured individually for each patient using data and. computer tomography 3D Printing
The developers note that these implants are primarily designed to correct and restore bone voids and skull defects. The Longeviti team is working with clinicians on patient computed tomography data, which allows a customized implant to be created with an accurate fit and restoration circuit and then delivers it to the surgical team sterilized and ready for use. Thus, implants can be installed as part of a single-stage cranioplastic operation instead of two with more favorable results.
ClearFits both optically transparent and sonopaque, i.e. permeable to ultrasonic waves. As a rule, brain ultrasound in adults is impossible due to the properties of the skull. Implants ClearFits allow doctors to perform this task, thereby opening up new possibilities for brain examination to neurosurgeons. It is known that neurosurgical patients require postoperative imaging, sometimes throughout their lives, and most often CT or MRI is used for these purposes. Both methods have specific financial and logistical constraints that ultrasound does not have. Using ultrasound, physicians can control tumor growth or the efficacy of bypass anastomosis in a non-invasive intervention setting, much more preferably for the patient.[1]
