2025: Ban in Brazil
On April 30, 2025, the National Health Surveillance Agency Brazil announced a national ban on sales of Colgate Total Clean Mint toothpaste. The reason was the numerous complaints of consumers that the use of this product can provoke irritation of the oral cavity.
Since the beginning of 2025, reports have been received from Brazilian buyers of Colgate Total Clean Mint toothpaste that it causes burning, swelling of the gums and painful ulcers. Some consumers have to seek help from health facilities.
On March 27, 2025, Brazilian regulators imposed a ban on the use and sale of Colgate Total Clean Mint, but the manufacturer filed an appeal, during which the imposed restrictions were lifted. But Colgate later withdrew its own appeal, in connection with which the ban re-entered into force.
Colgate Total Clean Mint commented on the situation. The Rospotrebnadzor agency's message in Telegram the channel notes that Russia the toothpaste does not require state registration, license or approval. Such products are subject to mandatory confirmation of compliance only in the form of declaration in accordance with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union TR CU 009/2011 "On the Safety of Perfume and Cosmetic Products." Nevertheless, Rospotrebnadzor took control of reports of possible claims against Colgate Total Clean Mint toothpaste. In case of questions about the quality of products, citizens can send their appeals through official communication channels.
Consumer safety remains a priority for the department. If justified complaints are received or inconsistencies are identified, an additional examination will be carried out with the involvement of accredited laboratories, the Rospotrebnadzor statement says.[1] |
