2023: Implant Announcement
On May 18, 2023, the American company Paradromics announced the creation of an innovative implant on the basis of which a high-performance brain-computer interface can be implemented. The product, among other things, will help patients who have lost the opportunity to talk as a result of a stroke to regain contact with the outside world.
Researchers note that conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal cord injury and stroke can cause serious motor disorders that affect people's ability to communicate. Such a patient is difficult to speak or use a computer. A new development called Connexus Direct Data Interface (DDI) is designed to solve the problem.
The technology involves using a brain implant that receives signals from more than 1,600 individual neurons. The collected data is then analyzed and converted into control commands for the computer. As a result, a person gets the opportunity to communicate and perform certain actions "by the power of thought." For Connexus DDI, other applications are considered. These are, in particular, help with mental disorders, suppression of chronic pain, elimination of sensory deficiency, etc.
Paradromics announced the raising of $33 million for the further development of the project during the Series A funding round. The investment program was led by Prime Movers Lab. In addition, Westcott Investment Group, Dolby Family Ventures and Green Sands Equity provided the funds. Earlier, at the initial stage of financing, Paradromics received $7 million. Thus, the total amount raised reached $40 million. According to some market participants, the company has created a revolutionary device and technology that surpasses any other development in the relevant field.[1]
