2018: Commercial Cloud Launch for Tire Monitoring
In early 2018, Continental launched its tire pressure monitoring platform, ContiConnect, into commercial operation. The company says the new solution will help fleets make their work more efficient, as low tire pressure , breakdowns and damage are among the most common causes of commercial vehicle downtime.
The system collects and analyzes data from sensors installed on the inner surface of the tire. This arrangement of sensors, as noted in Continental, protects them from damage as a result of hitting bumps in the road or from theft, and also provides an accurate determination of the air pressure and temperature level without the influence of heat transmitted by the braking mechanisms.
Information from these sensors through the cellular network enters the cloud. At the time of launch of ContiConnect, users have access to data such as warnings about low tire pressure , tire condition over a certain period of time, reports and analytical notes on all wheels picked up by sensors. You can access this information from any device that has Internet access.
In addition, the solution allows you to configure notifications in the form of SMS messages or emails that specialists will receive immediately after the data on low pressure or high temperature in the buses arrives on the server.
Commenting on the launch of the system, Michael Neuheisel, head of digital solutions for commercial vehicles at Continental, noted that the product was the starting point for turning the company into a service provider for working with data coming from tires. With this, Continental is transforming from a premium tire manufacturer to a solution provider, he added.[1]
2016: Announcement
On September 22, 2016, the company Continental introduced an information and control system for truck tires. ContiConnect
The solution monitors the pressure and temperature in all tires of the fleet through time-tested ContiPressureCheck sensors, and then transmits the information to the control panel. The system not only sends the necessary data to the fleet manager, but also offers troubleshooting measures if necessary, for example, through the Conti360 ° service network. On the online portal, full information appears on the condition of the tires of all cars in the fleet and the overall efficiency of their work.
The system provides many settings that allow you to transmit information about all tires operating in the fleet, including those on the way. Thanks to the modular design of ContiPressureCheck, it is possible to receive data from a stationary device installed in a fleet room, or from each car while driving, with information transmitted in real time. If the bus parameters are close to the critical limit, ContiConnect sends a warning and prompts the manager to immediately take the necessary measures, for example, to order the replacement of the bus. As ContiConnect provides as complete information as possible, tire walking and service life increases, fuel efficiency may also improve. As a result, the time of useful operation of cars increases, the need for maintenance decreases: this increases the mobility and efficiency of vehicles.
ContiConnect can work with ContiPressureCheck sensors installed by both the operator and the tire manufacturer itself. These sensors, in particular, will be equipped with Continental iTire tires, the production of which begins in Pukhov (Slovakia). iTire tires, offered in 22 sizes, can be ordered both when buying a new car and when replacing tires. The iTire tire line will be constantly expanding.
Sensors working with ContiConnect are compatible with most of today's fleet management systems - both original and offered in the secondary market.
- With ContiConnect, fleet managers can obtain complete tire status information for each vehicle.
- On the online portal ContiConnect, full information appears on the condition of the tires of all cars in the fleet and the effectiveness of their work.
"ContiConnect is a big step forward for our company: from a manufacturer of high-quality tires, we are turning into a provider of complex solutions. Continental's truck and bus tyres, the product of our years of experience, are now supplied with sensors. For our customers, this means moving from manual scheduled service to automatic monitoring and targeted service. Our comprehensive solution provides our customers with many advantages related to the application of advanced know-how in the development of tires, sensors, as well as vehicle information transmission systems.
