2021: Creating a program

On August 2, 2021, the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) told how artificial intelligence helps catch serial criminals and maniacs. One of the programs is called Crimeserieslinkage. It was developed by the Research Institute of Forensic Science based on machine learning algorithms.

This software, as the head of the main department of forensic science (Forensic Center) of the TFR Sigmund Lozhis told RIA Novosti , uses a model database that contains information about the handwriting of persons who have committed a total of over 1000 serial crimes. The application is registered in the computer program registry of the Federal Intellectual Property Service of the Russian Federation.

According to Lozhis, investigators also use the AI system, which allows you to build a portrait of a serial rapist, including establishing his age, family status, the presence of mental illness and a criminal record, the fact of committing a crime using a car and without it, the presence of a connection between the offender and the victim before the act.

An algorithm has been created to build a portrait of a serial rapist on the basis of a number of signs that are established by the investigator at the beginning of the investigation. This system is based on artificial intelligence algorithms, namely, neural networks, "said the head of the Forensic Center of the Investigative Committee, the software allows you to predict the distance from the crime scene to the place of residence of such a criminal with high accuracy (more than 90%, and in some cases almost 100%).

By the beginning of August 2021, both programs are being tested at the main department of forensic science of the Investigative Committee.

Russian security forces have repeatedly tried to use AI for their own purposes, but previously it was mainly about recognizing faces and objects in images and videos.[1]
